adhd and social secrity disability | ADHD Information

Would someone with ADHD who have had real bad experiences with jobs and was unable to keep them be eligible for Social Security Disability? I'm looking for information on the internet, but it all just confuses me :|. I just need a straight answer. not as a primary diagnosis.  you would need to have several other diagnosis to go with it.  you would need to work with your doctor and have a solid plan before they evaluate you.  i doubt adhd is the only issue if you have problems with work, and understanding them would give you the preperation to take into the SS eval.  [QUOTE=TheDog]

If I were you I'd talk to an expert - a legal professional who specializes in social security claims.

The advice may cost you a few dollars but likely would be worth it. If you can't afford it, you may be eligible for legal advice from a disability advocacy group or legal aid if they exist in your area. Many bar associations also have programs for sliding scale fee arrangements for people with less financial means.

this is from the SS secrets website, and a direct quote.

"Therefore, to win an ADHD disability claim, it is not simply enough to be given an ADHD diagnosis. "

As I stated in my earlier posting, my brothe (40 yrs) has been classified as disabled with the help of his social worker.  This is because he had no money, literally, and needed therapy badly which medicaid can provide.  He had tried holding down a series of jobs only to lose them because he keeps "messing up" (getting confused, too slow, can't count money, etc).  He was also classified as learning disabled growing up because he had such a hard time in school and is dyslexic.  I do think he has multiple problems so it's possible that ADHD is not the primary diagnosis that qualified him as disabled.

Sorry I can't be of more help.
