ADD vs BiPolar | ADHD Information

Basic seperation between ADD and Bipolar - do you have long extended periods of depression? If you do then you probably are bipolar. When I was diagnosed I showed all signs of bipolar including that it ran in my family, but I didn't have depression, so they diagnosed me with ADD. I have been recently diagnosed with BiPolar Disorder.  This was radically different from any other diagnosis in the past.  I have been ADD all my life, was on Straterra, and loved it, lost medical insurance, had to go off, and recently went to a different head shrinker and she says (based on a 9 question screening) I am BoPolar. I went along with her and tried 2 different mood stabalizers that have had me REALLY screwy/ Has anyone had this experience, and what besides find another doctor (still no insurance, so first time consults are a burden).   I have noticed a discernable lack of information regarding the issue of BiPolar vs ADD in adults.
OMG someone who understand, I do not have long depression.  Whne i suggested to the doc that maybe she should read up on ADD, she looked at me like I was from Mars.

Thank you.
