healing a shore shoulder.
I have been sceptical about taking med ever since I used paxil
for PTSD. Now it has bee three weeks and I want to get off, I am
don't want to get addicted. I have been told that I am on a form of speed.
If anyone can tell me if it gets better please tell me.lost at 4038517.4639814815lost @ 40....

(in my opinion) 6x 5mg tabs a day is a lot. IF you're a big guy this will probably be ok for you though.  A friend of mine who is about 6"6 is prescribed 6 a day, although he doesn't always take them, or even that many.

I'm on 3 a day and have been taking them for 6+ years.
I started on 4, and have tried taking 5 for a while. I eventually dropped down to 3 because that's what I felt worked best for me.

> don't want to get addicted. I have been told that I am on a form of speed.

You could say they're a 'form of speed'. They're both amphetamines, and will both have amphetamine like effects. They're not the same thing though, nor is speed/meth a 'street' version of Dextroamphetamine, they're just in the same family.

Yes, Amphetamines are addictive. This will vary from person to person.

Like an amphetamine you will be able to go beyond your normal limits.
You'll get an increased heart rate and all the usual ampetamine effects.

Hello everyone. I was finaly taken of Methylin (tried short acting as well as a Sr version).  Although Ritalin made it easier for me to concentrate, it also made me feel dizzy, dull, and totaly socially withdrawn.  Last monday I got my dextroamphetamine script, tablets 5 mg two times/day. And well, it works like magic, it completely calms my mind down, gives me lots of energy, but at the same time I can sit stil when I need to without any problems, gives me this sort of euphoric feeling (which was listed as a side effect :), even music seems to sound better. But I found it strange that it takes more then 3,5 hours for a single pill to start working. Of cource I feel the come up after about 40 minutes, but the initial platea starts after about 4 h.

hi Amok

I was recently diagnosed with ADD and put on dexedrine, 5mg twice a day, and you're right, works like magic, does the same things for me.  I have never enjoyed work so much, things come easier, the lost feeling is gone, my mind doesn't hum with 200 conversations and thoughts all day.  I am now up to 10 mg twice a day,  they start acting right away for me, but wear off in about 3 hours, since i was bumped up to 10 mg though it seems to stay longer, maybe about 4.5 hours or so.  But what a difference.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Guys

I just wanted to share my dex experience and concerns, hope you don't mind! I have been taking 3 x 5mg of dexies a day for the past 2.5 years. I certainly enjoy the calming effect and improved productivity and focus. My work, study, relationships and overall quality of life have generally improved whilst on this medication. However I am concerned about the long term effects of using this medication so am thinking about stopping it. I have gone the past 5 days without the medication and definitely miss it. Certainly not a productive or effective as I have been. I am in my late 20's so my Dr thinks my brain should mature reducing my ADHD.

I also discussed my concerns about the health risks from taking this medication with my Dr. He said that given the small doseage I am on a few cups of coffee would probably be more toxic. I am a little skeptical about this given the significant mind altering effect this drug has on me.

Does anyone have any information on the long term health consequences of taking dexies over many years? Has anyone on this forum used dexedrine to treat their ADHD over a number of years and have any information on how it is helped/affected them? Is it possible to use dexes only on an as needed basis e.g. for study or when work is really challenging?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Mike

I just started Dexedrine and am concerned. I do not want to have any health problems, and I am reading scary stuff about Aderall, which is about the same thing. I have got the rapid heartbeat, and I want to know if that goes away. Also bad headaches at the front of my head. I do feel better though, but these side effects are bothersome. I am also worried about my heart, and stuff like that. I am afraid that these will be hazardous to my health... are they? I am also hearing Dexedrine is one of the better ones, so.. I don't know. Any advice? You can email me, about your stories, what you know, your experiences, etc. All will be appreciated. Thanks!!
