My Dr originally had me try 40 mg of Adderall XR (I was taking 72 mg of Concerta)...and i had to stop the Add due to headaches...
Since I quit smoking, I can only take 36 mg of Concerta... (smoking apparently can make your liver process differently, so my normal dosage smoking is too high not smoking...lol). And Adderal no longer gives me headaches.
But I am going to try 15 mg of Adderall for a few weeks, even just 20 mg is too much now.
My Dr said that 20 mg of Adderall is about equivalent to 40-50 mg of Concerta..?
But everyone is different on dosage... I've been on med's for years, and my dosage still changes at times.
chicx0r38485.3243287037I started at 15 mg Adderall XR (3 months).
I moved to 20 mg Adderall XR for 4 months.
I am currently taking 30 mg Adderall XR (2 months).
I have seen benefits at each of these amounts but something is still lacking. When it wears off if I forget to take my booster 10 mg of regular Adderall at about 3 PM I am worthless. I get really tired and totally unmotivated to do anything but veg.
I asked my doctor to give me Strattera and Adderall as that is what my son is taking and the combination has really been good for him. The Dr. wants to wait until I try some higher doses of Adderall before I add another med. I just read something from Dr. Amen at http://www.brainplace.com/bp/atlas/ch12.asp that describes the different types of ADHD and what he has found as the best treatment. I am convinced my son and I are both the Overfocused type of ADHD along with some of the other behaviours in the other categories.
My psychiatrist started me on 10mgs of Adderall just three days ago. I take it in the morning and then in the afternoon if I feel like I need it. It's good to start out on a low dosage and work your way up...just in case you freak out. I took the pill about an hour and not really feeling any different...actually feeling a little tired and dull.I think that's just how I woke up though...
