Hi, I don't know if i am writing in the right section but i was hoping someone could give me some advice. My son is 25 and left school 9 years ago he can't hold down a job,has difficulty with relationships, keeps saying he wants to drive, but does nothing about it until pushed. He split up with his girlfriend about 3 years ago,she was 10 years older than him and had a 6 year old daughter at the time and they had a daughter between them and he was devastated when they split (for a week) until he found a new girlfriend. He came back to live with us but after a year we could'nt put up with him any longer and made him get a council flat, thinking this would give him some sense of responsibility, but has he does'nt work and can't grasp the concept of having to pay bills, i don't know how much longer he will have that. He does have his daughter every other weekend but really i have to arrange that too. As a child teachers used to say he was distructive and did'nt pay attention,he was classed as naughty i think, we were very young when we had him and did'nt know any different. My son and i argue all the time i say its because i want better for him, my husband says leave him alone hes just bone idle. I don't think it is that though, because i am very much the same we also both have tics mine is worse than his. but he rubs his nose all the time and his daughter does exactly the same. He lies about the most pointless things and already at just 4 she does the same. He also used to gamble on machines alot, he binge drinks, plays computer games and is totally addicted to soaps. Do you think he has ADD and if so how do you go about getting tested.
Hey Grindle, I have tourette's syndrome, have had tics since I was little. Only found out at 26 that 50-90% of people with Tourette's also have ADD, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression or addictive tendencies.
It's apparently not easy to get treatment for adult ADD in the UK, some doctors will say you're making it up.
However, if you first looked at the tics, it might be easier to find someone willing to help you.
The UK has a Tourette's helpline 0845 458 1252.

Start by calling them and getting some advice and support on how to progress with your son.
Good luck!
I think the tic's say it all....that is a characteristic of Tourette's Syndrome, and that often comes with ad/hd. Maybe he can possibly get tested for it....maybe it will be easier for him to get tested if he also explains about the tics?Hi. I'm not a doctor or a theropist, but just from what I have read my opinion would be that it looks very much like that is a huge factor in his life.
