Does anyone know anything about increasing Adderall XR, my son is on 20 mg now and has only been on it for about a week, having gone from 10 to 15 to 20 since April 23rd, how much can a 7 year old 57lb take?? Also, is there anything known that he can take in the evening that will help him concentrate for his baseball games which are all at 6:30pm and I give him the medicine at 6:30 am and by that time it's worn out!!!!!!! Any suggestions?

Your son may just metabolize the Adderall XR faster and need a higher dose. I just started taking Adderall XR 30 mg about a month age. I weigh 116 pounds. I used to be on Concerta 54 mg. My doctor said that 30 to 40 mg of Adderall XR is comparable to that dose of Concerta. Anyway, I am thinking I need the 40 mg dose now. Someone also told me that sometimes it is better to take the short acting Adderall. You have to take it 3 times a day, but it might be easier to adjust his doses better.
It doesn't sound like too high a dose, especially because is an extended release. Ask you doctor what the max for his weight would be. How about regular, shorter acting Adderall as needed for practice, homework? My son is on Concerta and we give it to him at 7am and it wears off after about 10 1/2 hours so we give him Ritalin which lasts only 3 or so hours.
