My doc put me on Concerta for Adult ADD. I made an appointment for followup in a month. His secretary calls and cancels my appointment and now I have no meds. I am so mad. First he tells me how important they are and now I dont have any. I am not addicted or anything just really mad that he went out of the country and did not leave someone behind to take care of his patients. Now I wonder if I should take the meds at all since it is such a pain to get it. I know it is a controlled substance but really does not help that much.

Sorry to hear about the appointment cancellation. That doesn't sound very professional. My psychiatrist started me on Ritalin three weeks ago, using a coupon for a free month. Because I am uninsured, I have applied for the drug company's patient assistance program. She said depending on how long it takes my application to go through, I may have to pay for it out-of-pocket for one month. The point is, that she followed that by saying "and you don't want to run out of this stuff", wich leads me to believe stopping it cold turkey is very unpleasant.
By the way, how do you know no one will cover his patients, did you ask his secretary? When does he get back in town? I would call his secretary, explain the situation, and see if she can refer you to another doctor for an immediate appointment, so he can write a script to cover you until your doc gets back. I called back and talked to another nurse and she said she would try to corner him and make him write the script. He did but it was too late to get it filled yesterday. I am going to go by first thing this morning and pick it up and have it filled. There goes my lunch hour. I have since made an appointment with another doc but they were so booked up I will have to wait a month to get in. I appreciate both of you for advice. I am glad that the company offers some help with the cost. That med is expensive.
