Hello everone.I am new to posting on this site for the first time but not new to ADHD at all.I have adhd myself and have a 7 year old nephew that has adhd.We have been struggling with his adhd everysince he was an little over a year old.Even before he could get seen under a neurologist he was put on clonidine at almost two yrs old.Basically it did not work and we all like to had lost our minds until he was put on adderall at the age of 3.I could go on and on and on about all of the meds that he has been on.I will at some other time but my main concern now is the clonidine again.Basically the short acting Adderall (generic) was not working anymore when we tried to increase it he got awful tics and it took his appetite away. Now he is on the Adderall Xr 5mg.He is doing ok with it but he seems to have uncontrollable excitability and slight tics with it if you know what I mean,He will do outburst laughing and screaming which can be very annoying. His neuro put him on clonidine to "counteract it".It seems to work but he has been urinating a whole lot he will even wet himself and this is not him.We called his neuro back and he said to decrease it to 1/4 a pill twice a day (The Clonidine was 0.1mg 1/2 twice a day). This stops his excessive urination but it does absolutely nothing about the excitability or the uncontrolable loud scenes. Now his neuro wants to put him on the Tenex 1mg a day.1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at bedtime. He has never been on this before and we are scared. We were wondering has anyone else had any experiencine with this drug. The Adderallxr helps with his aggressive behavior, self inflicting himself when he gets upset,he has even butted his head hard against the wall and when he gets upset these sudden attacks can happen so quickly. He never attacks us but he will do harm to himself. This is what the Adderall Xr is helping for but it is causing the slight ticks/excitabily.Not hyper.I hope that I am making sense. It is so hard to explain this on the computer about the difference between him not being "hyper" but him having the "excitabilty".I hope that I get some feedback about this drug.
Thanks Tj
