Question about Conners test. | ADHD Information

Share
the papers are questions they answer about the child. Like do they sit still.

I keep hearing everyone refer to the Conners report or the Conners test, when my son was evaluated at school they used something called the BASC-2. I filled out an at home evaluation questionnaire and the teacher filled out one for at school. I'm wondering if this is the same thing as the Conners. If not, what is the difference & should I have a Conners done also?

My son was already diagnosed, but the more info the better.

Thanks

Are they only doing this test because that is what the teachers say. Why isn't a ful assessment  done. Our kids Dr. who new him said no to adhd. Our sons symptoms don't match just adhd. This is why we think Autism also. This new one said I agree. You requested it be done school never followed her request either.

Sons History: at 4 months body throwing, Unconsolable, cryed when we went places,No pretalking skills. Drug leg when crawled.ill alot . Sensory defensive behavior. didn't feed self. 1 year started having spells that look like absence seizures. At preschool age covered ears and screamed around noises. This is more autism things than adhd from kids i have seen. We have tryed since the first thing noticed. Today they all call it adhd. Dr.'s also seem to not want to diagnose kids early anymore. I also beleive since therapies have helped him . They say he will grow out of this. So far haven't seen that happening.

I tried to have him evaluated last year but the school didn't feel it was necessary because it wasnt affecting his school work. But when his grades started slipping this year I pushed for it again and they were much more co-operative.

It's such a process to even get it started!!! I tried going straight to his doctor for a consultation, but they said they can't do anything w/o an evaluation from the school, and the school won't do anything unless he's hanging from the ceiling half the day or is harming other children!

Thomas' behavior problems effect every aspect of his daily life, He has trouble at home, at school, at the sitter's during school vacations ( to the point where she has mentioned not being able to take him anymore.)

He's not malicious or violent, He just "buzzes" He can't stay still, he can't stop talking, when you talk to him sometimes it's as if he's so busy thinking of what he wants to say next, he doesnt even hear you. He gets very loud & on his best days he's just weird!!!!  Repeating words or nonsense phrases over and over. His doctor says its a mild type of OCD that sometimes affects ADHD children, where they fell compelled to repeat  the same thought or action for short spans of time

AAHHHHH the joys of parenthood

It is not a divinitive test though. A child can have trouble sitting still in school and also have autism or early onset bipolar. Therefore, you can score very high on Connors yet the root cause is not ADHD. Any professional who diagnosis strictly on Connors, or the symptoms of "hyper-ness" is not checking EVERY possibility out. Ohhhhhhh this test? Is it papers that you get from the DR? And then your supposed to fill some out at home regarding behavior and some are given to teachers to fill out? Am I on the right track here?

The BASC-2 has a bunch of behavioral questions (in a random pattern) that you answer with never, sometimes, almost always or always. I filled out an at home observation report & the teacher filled out a classroom observation report.

The forms were given to me by the school psychologist & when they were completed she made up her report based on my and the teachers ratings. She was not permitted to offer a "diagnosis" but she did suggest I follow it up with a visit to his doctor (which was the reason I had it done in the first place)

She also showed me a graph of my & the teachers scores. They were amazingly similar. Thomas scored Highest (worst) in Hyperactivity, Atypicality & Attention Problems. He also showed problems to a lesser degree with Conduct, Social Skills & Depression.

I have to say it was devastating to see it all in black and white! Even though I was well aware of most of his problems, he usually doesnt display them all at once, so when you see it all ,on once piece of paper its a bit of a shock.

I assume that the Conners test is mostly the same.

While I agree that no piece of paper can truly "diagnose" a child, keep in mind that this was all done at my request because as his mom I was already pretty sure that he probably has ADD/ADHD. The doctor also did a physical exam & ordered labwork as well. We have our next consultation in 2 weeks to see how things are progressing.
