Anyone know the effects of alcohol and Adderall? Say I want a nice cold beer but I have taken my Adderall...will I freak out?

Thanks!

I answered my own post. Ha!

Alice,

Many of my friends take adderol while they drink. What are the possible health risks of doing this? I know adderol is a stimulant, so can you drink much more alcohol while on it without feeling the effects as much?

Dear Reader,

Adderall (you were close with the spelling) is a prescription drug in the amphetamine class used for treating Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It works mainly on the neurotransmitter, dopamine. Adderall is a stimulant; however, when it is prescribed in normal doses for people with ADD and ADHD, it works by helping them maintain their attention for a longer duration, allowing them to study or work more effectively, without experiencing the medication's "speed-like" effects.

When combining alcohol with Adderall, people find that the depressive effects of alcohol are lessened. For this reason, some people take Adderall before or while they are drinking, so that they can party for longer, allowing them to drink more and not get the "sleepy drunk-like" feeling earlier on. So, basically, Adderall allows people who are drinking to party much longer into the night and decrease the likelihood of sleeping or passing out.

shock38489.399224537Actually, taking adderall and drinking can cause dizziness or sleepiness. It also causes the heart to work harder and increases the risk of heart-related complications. My friend just told me that if she has some drinks and has taken her Adderall that each drink reacts like 2.

Hmmm, dunno about anyone else but alcohol makes me insanely silly and hyper. More so, I think, than other people. The combination of my meds with a few drinks definetely lessens the drunk effect, but I am a responsible drinker so that doesn't bum me out too too bad. He he.

But I've always had very different reactions with the three main alcohols (Beer, Wine, Liquor)

Liquor: can drink like a fish, out drink any man twice my size...it's ridiculous and has no next day consequences what-so-ever.

Beer: nearly the same tolerance as liquor but bad hangovers if I drink too much.

Wine: For some reason, makes me 'drunker' much quicker than anything else...no consequences next day.

Random...

My Dr tried me on Adderall in college...(switched from Ritalin, caused headaches)..

I had 1/2 a glass of wine one afternoon (while taking Adderall) and almost passed out....made me very sleepy.

So, I knew I'd be drinking alcohol...so I went back to the Ritalin...
