Straterra side effects | ADHD Information

Do the side effects of Straterra abate with time? Just starting out and I'm having some of the dreaded side effects. I've also learned that if you can stay with a drug long enough the side effects can abate. How about you other Straterra users any thoughts?

My dd has been on Strattera for about 2 months now.  She is only five, but has really only complained a fews times of a stomach ache or headache (she got these before the meds anyways).  But, she had TERRIBLE side effects on Ritalin and Adderal

I think all meds (even Tylenol!) have side effects and you have to weigh the benefits versus the downsides.  I know that Strattera takes 4-6 weeks to work, so you may have to hang in there.

Good luck.

My son just started on Straterra yesterday.

The dr, said to start small and wean him onto it.  We are starting with a 3rd of a capsule for 3 days then 2/3's for 3 days then 1 for three days.  Then 1.5 tabs etc etc etc

Hope it works

Use after ful stomach only. Can be given after dinner to see less side effects. Takes 4-6 weeks to see difference. The amount should be like this. week 1 less amount each week more added until needed amount. Should be based on weight size. He grew and gained weight on it. off for summer. Will restart 2 weeks before school starts in AUG. here in Texas. The healthier he eats the better he is. He is a Sensory disorder kid also. We use a antioxidant, Multi vitamin. Both Melaleuca wellness ones. We find work good also. I just started my 11 year old girl on Strattera.  She has not complained of any side affects yet.  we were on adderall xr for the last 3 years or so and she never slept and complained about stomache aches.  I changed her to strattera because puebuerty is starting and thought her body might need a change.  The doctor said we could try, however, I am discouraged because it takes so long to get into her system. its only been four weeks and have not seen any change.  Both of my sons are on straterra.  My 12 year old has been on it for a year now and the side effects stopped after about a month.  My 14 year old has been on it for 1 1/2 months and has had some nausea and stomach pains, but not that bad.  Try to stick it out for a few months.  We have seen some great results from it!I have been on Strattera for over a year and the nausea and head aches have not gone away.  I am looking into going back on the ritalin because I did not seem to have any side effects with that. I got side effects from every add medication and ive taken them all. Strattera was the worst. I got sexual side effects (spazms in penis and irreguar ejaculation), along with cardio side effects (chest pain/ high blood pressure/ pulse/ palipatiations).

I got off the medicine and the side effects persisted for a very long time. I still have chest pain and it has been 4 months since taking the medication.

My son was on Strattera and Clonidine for two years and some side effects never stopped.

The stomach aches, leg pains, headaches, and tiredness. They seemed to get worse over time. Now I don't know which one caused it but something was that's for sure.

To top it off he started to get very bad nose bleeds. And I do mean very bad. Needless to say...we are winging it now for the first time in about four or five years without meds.

Good luck and just be careful

Our son, too, got very bad nosebleeds on Strattera--several a day. And he
got facial tics. We're still looking for a solution as he had similar side effects
from Adderall and Ritalin.
