Please I need help!
Dexmethylphenidate(Focalin)
Has anyone tried this medication? Did it help? What were the more common side effects?
My 6 year old son is ADHD and his doctor wants to put him on this medication. I've looked this up on webmd and it gave me the basics. I need to know from someone who has had experience with this medication. We've tried Strattera(worked for a while, then stopped) and Welbutrin(that was a disaster). Something has to work! Please let me know if you can, which other meds worked best for you.

My son, Mark, who is 7 1/2 was diagnosed 2 years ago with ADHD. He just started on Focalin this year, in September. He is only on 2.5 mg to be taken at 4:00 pm for homework purposes. He also takes Concerta, 58mg. We found that after school, the Concerta was not lasting long enough to get through his homework. The focalin has been a godsend. We do continue to give him the Focalin on weekends too. It helps with his little league games which are mainly in the afternoon. As you can tell, we only use it as a supplement. The Concerta has been working great. We did, at one point go from Concerta to Strattera. Strattera did not work at all for Mark. We went back to Concerta and increased the dosage and it has been working well this school year.
His doctor may up the dosage of Focalin on the next med review in 90 days.
