Odd collections | ADHD Information

When I was 13 or 14 I used to have a large collection of 'fruit stickers'. Those little stickers on apples, oranges etc.

I started putting them on the inside of my locker at school, then when I ran out of space I started sticking them all in a book.

When I went on overseas holidays I would get interesting ones from Germany, France etc.

I even had overseas penpals who used to send me unusual ones. One day I decided it was a stupid collection and threw it out. I wish I still had it, just for a laugh!

We just moved and I came across a full sheet of Elvis stamos too. Only we are having it framed to put up. I am also obssessed with vintage purses from the '50s and vintage pin-up girl art.I too, collect strange things.  My whole family looks at me like I'm a kook.  Oh well.  The worst thing about it is that hobbies like scrapbooking and sewing are dangerous.  I "collect" papers, pens, stickers, fabrics, ribbons, the list could go on and on.  Thank goodness my husband is there to say, "Enough!"  LOL Well.. it's a good thing my wife says "NO!" but i 'collect' airplanes.. and no, not model ones... Not exactly an 'odd' collection but it's not like i am a millionaire (i do make a very nice salary tho).

I own three aircraft right now, one Cessna we use for 'normal' flying (Vegas and such), one 1948 F-86 Sabre jet and one 1944 Supermarine Spitfire..

I tend to buy old aircraft quite a bit with the intention of selling it right off again for a better price but there's always that little 'voice' that says "you know you want to keep it!"

Any more than i already own would seriously bankrupt me :) Maintenance (and even flying, especially the jet) of these planes runs easily into a higher-than-average-salary per year. On top of that, the old Spitfire always has a problem somewhere, be it an oil leak, a coolant leak or simply a busted part in the V12 engine.

But, my wife's good at keeping me 'in check' when it comes to spending cash so that's a good thing. But me and money aren't a good combination, i like to spend cash :)

Oh, i work in the aerospace industry, so my interest in airplanes isn't entirely misplaced.

All my life if I liked a very strange & colorful package off of something I would keep it. So years later I would find this dumb soda can & end up pitching it.

I recently found a full sheet of Elvis stamps I bought when they came out. Lacking stamps I started using them LOL (with extra postage of course)

Thats funny, I do that too. I kept an empty 2 litre bottle of "Live Wire" Mountain Dew from last summer. I figured that an intact one would be rare someday. I threw it away when I moved thank goodness.

Wow me too!

I just kept an empty bottle of Jolt Cherry Bomb soda in my truck for a while. It was just a cool can and I have no idea what I was going to do with it but it looked cool

The more I find out about this ADD thing the more my life makes sense :)

MM

I was going to do a new painting all in Mountain Dew Black cans..I saved those so long..lol

Mountain Dew & Nestea/Lipton is my obsession..

Well, I have collected various things and they include Coins (I have pretty much every country in the world), Baseball Cards (I have lots of packs from the 1980s), Star Wars' Cards from the 80s, old Superman Cards, and I buy different books for me to read.   Of course, many people collect things.  But maybe the thinking is a person would focus on one or two things if they are not ADHD in personality.   I basically focus on books I want to read and make a point to read them and building up my collection and do not collect beyond that in general.  I also make it a point to look at my purchasing and stop at a certain point and get rid of some of the books I already have to make room for others I bring in.  I think that makes sense for me....  [QUOTE=MaddMatt]

Or at least you now know why it so often does *NOT*!

(Make sense that is).   Like right now I can't for the life

of me, figure out WHY I'm getting a blank line after every

line of text.  ???     But yea,  I can't throw anything away

until I convince myself (and it a tough sell every time!) that

I'm never going to need it (whatever it happens to be) ever

again so long as I live.    Containers are my best friend!  I have

boxes, bags, jars, and jugs of the oddest of things that only an

ADDer (IMO) would EVER think of saving.  How odd?

1)  Paper shopping bag full of acorns from 5 years ago.

2)  Big pickle jar full of dandelion seeds (Complete -w- parachutes)

3) Cigarette carton boxes of gallon jug (milk) tops.

4) A box of practically every dead sharpie marker I've ever owned,

but just can't bring myself to throw away.

5) A bag full of very colorful Starburst (chewy candy) wrappers.

6) a HUGE (TV set size) box full of dark green Jagermeister bottles

from my drinkin' daze. (empty of course!)

7) 4 boxes of sea shells I collected as I kid.

And of course, the collection I will NEVER even THINK of throwing

away,  Pictures, pictures, pictures everywhere. If you see me with

a pair of snippers, STAND BACK!  Whatever it is, if it's made out

of paper, I check it for pictures before tossing it in the recycle

bin.  It takes me 2 hours every week when it comes time to

toss the week's newspapers in the recycle bin because I check

every last page (including the comics) for pics to keep.  And

computer pics?  ferget about it.  I lost count after the first

MILLION!    And that's NO exaggeration folks!  And all of them

with a 56k (or slower on older 'puters I've had) modem.

I don't know if wierd collections is an ADD thing specifically,

but it fits ME 100000000000000000000000000000000%.

                                    Peace,

I don't know if this would count as a weird collection, but I just simply cannot throw away anything that I think looks "cute." Whatever it is. I have boxes and boxes filled with "cute" things of all sizes. It could be a small ring that I found or a cute pen that stopped working a year ago. I have a pen-looking keychain that I got 3 year ago. The bottom lights up like a purple blinking wand. I don't use it. I only see it like probably once every 3 months but I can't throw it away because it's "cute."

Oh, and I have every single greeting card that I've ever gotten since I was really young. It's sentimental kind of, but it takes up space. But then again, anything takes up space to me, even if it doesnt.

Weird.

Oh, something that I do collect.
Notebook covers. Cute ones. LOL. I've also got alot of old folders from high school and junior high school. Artistic computerized stuff that looks cute. Also, I sometimes flip (well, go through each page) through magazines and tear out the "cute" ads.

So yeah, I do have odd collections. Though I hardly ever look at them after I collect it. Oh wait, something else that just came to mind. On my computer, I have lots and lots and lots of folders full of "cute" images that I do nothing with lol. Like the Cheerbear icon. Images with messages. Just alot of "cute" images. That's the keyword to everything I collect. It has to be "cute." or Visually stimulating. :-pI too have collected some strange things. When I was in middle school, I had a thing for my childhood passion "Care Bears" so in doing so I traveled to every flea market in my hometown and around other places. Had help with eBay, and had some family and friends pitch in to help me with the obsession. I felt like I had to have every Care Bears item made from the 80's, even stuff from before the time I was born. Now I collect stuff from Japan mainly comic books.
