When I was first diagnosed A.D.D. I was put on Strattera.
Strattera did NOT at ALL work for me.
But, it works for others and some it doesnt.
I was then put on Adderall and my only complaint is the loss of weight.
Thanks so much for your info,
He has no problems swallowing pills, We are also doing bedtime, his first dose was yesterday. I will keep in mind the protien, fat combo. He is a great eater, so I dont reall anticipate a problem there. He is very hyper, but impulsivity is is biggest problem, Strattera is my last option so f I dont see great things I guess I'll go back to Respiridol. Thanks again so much for taking the time to respond.
Heather-
My daughter, who is 5, has been on Staterra for about seven weeks. Fortunately, we have had very few side effects.
It can make them very sleepy, so we take it in the evening. We also take it right after dinner, so that she doesn't get a stomache ache. I have heard that a meal with both protein and fat is best (like peanut butter) to help ward off the stomache problems.
I don't know if your son can swallow a pill, but Strattera CANNOT be sprinkled on food. We have our daughter put the pill in a large straw in a cup of water and when she sucks up the liquid through the straw, the pill goes right down.
Also, it truly took about 6 weeks to see results. At about 2-3 weeks, we noticed some subtle changes but we really saw some bigger changes. Our dd was very impulsive and had a hard time listening to instructions from her teachers. This has gotten much better. She is still pretty hyperactive, so if she doesn't settle down before school starts in the fall, we will be adding a small dose of Tenex.
Good luck-

Hi everyone,
My son is 5, diagnosed ADHD or possible Tourettes, he is not able to take stimulant meds as he developed tics. He has been on Respiradal for 5 months, seems to help somewhat, STRATTERA has only recently been approved in Canada so we are starting it now. I am interested in anyones opinions on side effects to watch fo pros and cons of this med if you or your kids are on it. I am so skeptical about meds, afraid of them and I welcome any and all thoughts, thanks so much....this is the best board I have ever seen...you guys are wonderful!
