I don't know if I'm considered eccentric but I do know that my family thinks I'm weird or as my sister loves to call me, a freak. My friends love that I bring interest to their lives, and my fiance is just happy that he found someone different just like him (he just recently was diagnosed with ADD).
But yes I do have my "things". I must be able to see a clock at all times, though I hate wearing a watch-to restrictive. I am very tactile I walk through stores touching everything, and my fiance hates cooking for me because if something isn't just right I won't eat it. I relate completely to the toast thing except I won't eat it if it's under-toasted either. LOL
People also love to talk to me about their probs, though I come with a warning and disclaimer that I will always tell you what I think you really should do, and I won't do it through rose colored glasses either. I love talking about abstract topics and I'll take an opposite side of an issue just for fun, even if I agree with who ever I'm debating. I like stretching my mind and I guess I think others should too. I dunno. Drives my fiance nuts.
Is anyone else with ADHD extremely eccentric like me?
For example..I won't eat breakfast foods. I will eat a pizza before I will eat eggs & sausage because to me breakfast food seems too harsh to eat early in he morning. I am not talking taste sensitive. I am talking strange mental logic. No one ever taught me that too much butter, oil & fats were bad when I was a young age. I just naturally assumed they were.
On occasion I know what people are thinking & give them whatever they needed before they ask me. I can't catch myself doing this often due to the distractiveness of my environment but do on occasion.
I can see in the dark by the way sounds bounce off the walls in the darkness.
I always ironed my pants both legs together because logic tells me the heat will go through all the layers anyway. hehe
When I eat out a restaurant I must be facing the room and not the wall. I am not claustrophobic but just feel shut off from the world when I am staring at a blank wall.
discuss... : )
Interesting. Not sure if it is ADD related, but here's mine:
I don't wear belts. It's not that I don't have them, I have 3 or 4 nice looking belts but I just won't wear them
Like you, I need to face the crowd when eating. There is nothing to see looking at a wall :)
I'm sure there are many others but you would have to check with my wife. I am sure she has a list a mile long about the weird things I do that get on her nerves.
MM
Hmmm, maybe its because we are a homogenius group in a way, but NONE of those things sound weird at all to me. Why the heck would you choose to face away from the crowd at a restaurant? Oh! Unless there was a window with a view of something cool. I also don't like Breakfast at all...I like to eat the foods other times...I adore French Toast, but I can't eat anything before like 10 o clock.
I am very tactile as well...like am the pickiest underwear shopper you will ever meet. When I was a little kid, my parents had to fight to get me to wear them. TMI, eh? LOL! To this day, I will wear sandals in the middle of winter. Socks and shoes are too heavy and icky on my feet.
I also love a good discussion on spirituality and ANYthing open ended and/or abstract, non-concrete.
Other things? I am the only person in my office who has her desk facing the door straight on. When something is toasted just a teeny bit too much, I cannot eat it, it hurts my mouth. Consistent sound effects used in pop songs drive me absolutely bonkers. The worst though? I HATE unfinished projects, but I do them to myself constantly, its almost masachistic...it was in the top three reasons I sought help.
I don't think we are 'eccentric' though...I mean, its one of those really wishy washy words.

I am not ADD or anything, but I can't sleep unless all doors are closed, and I have to be able to see the door straight on. I am also super attuned to my body. I can tell immediately when something isn't right. I recently suffered a miscarraige. I knew something was up two weeks before my doctor could confirm a problem. Also, I constantly dream conversations or situations that happen the next day. It freaks people out when I start saying what they are saying at the same time. But that's me!
As for the what's good and what's bad for you, there are definately other explanations. When I was little I wouldn't drink formula, wouldn't eat jarred baby foods, and was just naturally wholistic. It may also be that you know which foods just make you feel better. Truthfully, if you eat eggs, bacon, and sausage first thing in the morning, you're going to feel heavy from it. Light foods are so much better anyway, and they make you feel a lot better. You could just be more sensitive to what your body needs.
I also cannot be facing a wall while eating. Of course, I'm also paranoid and need to see the entire room, including the door, for some reason. Not sure why, but it's an odd habit I got into. At every hall intersection I just need to know who is where. Of course, this makes me a good LARP storyteller, because I keep constant track of my players.
Besides that, I find I'm always giving spiritual advice to my friends, no matter what religion. And sometimes just helping them get by. Both me and my fiance just seem to attract other people's problems, though I'm not sure if that's something about us, or if we just seem to be the only ones without problems.
