Adderall w/ L-tyrosine | ADHD Information

Share

Ok I'm getting really frustrated. Let me give a quick summary up to this point. I went to the doctor for adult ADD because I really felt I matched up with alot of ADD symptoms. I had also tried a co-workers 20mg XR Adderall which helped me so much and solved alot of my problems. I go to the doctor and he first tries me on some herbal thing (no effect), then 10mg Ritlin (no effect), then effexor thinking it was depresion/anxiety (no effect), now finally I get Adderal XR 20mg.

Day one was GREAT, got the same effect from when I took the pill my co-worker gave me. I felt grounded, non-foggy headed, great concentration, etc. Day 2 it didn't seem real effective but I did take it with food. Now on Day three I took it without food but still didn't get the possitive effects to the extent I got on day 1. I've heard of building a resistance to meds but c'mon not after 1 day????

I was reading alot online about how dopamine (sp?) can play a part in many cases of ADD. I really feel as though I fit the description of low dopamine more than the hyper-active ADHD. I read about how L-tyrosine is what the body uses to naturally create dopamine. Is it possible that the Adderall isn't working because I'm not producing enough dopamine. Like on Day one of using Adderall I depleted my reserves of dopamine so now I just don't feel the same "euphoric" effects because there is none to be realesed?

If this is the case will taking a L-tyrosine supplement with Adderall make a possitive effect? I'm not the most knowlegable on this whole subject and I know alot of you have done alot of research. Does what I'm saying make any sense? Thanks gang for any help!

I am actually a big herbal freatk I have had great results from the regular ADD meds, but the side effects were detrimental.  People with add do suffer from unbalanced serotonin and dopamine levels.  L tyrosine can help with add but it must be taken with other amino acids to be fully effective , and I read somewhere that too much can be harmful, that is why I choose not to take it.  I can remember where I read it but I am including some of the websites I use frequently when reading about my supplements. If you are looking to go natural, I would start with some omega 3 fatty acids.  I am taking Omega fatty acids, st johns wart, b-stressw/siberian ginseng, ginko biloba and COQ10w/l carnitine.  My memory has improved and with some organizing challenges, I am doing well.  I am not cured, but unless something really bad happens, I will not be going back to any commercial add meds.  Good luck!
