Adderall and Slow Healing | ADHD Information
I've been taking Adderall for about 2 weeks now. Most of the side
effects have subsided. But...last week I was at the beach skimboarding
and a wave carried my board right into my foot. It hurt really bad, but
it was no big deal. About 10 minutes later, the exact same thing
happened in the exact same spot...yea, what stupid luck. But this time
it swelled up like a golfball and I noticed discoloring immediately.
I have never broken a bone before...I'm a 19 year old male and my body
is even more resilient to injuries than an average male. Simply put,
I've probably had less than 5 injuries in my life affect me for more
than a few days.
Except now...a week later...this minor injury is still bruised and
slightly swollen. There is definitely something wrong here. I know my
body well enough to know that there is something abnormal taking place. Now
here comes the issue with Adderall...
I've read that Adderall constricts the blood vessels, sometimes
inhibiting thorough circulation in the feet and hands. I think this
might be the reason of the extremely slow healing in my foot; a smaller
flow of blood would definitely extend the amount of time needed to heal
an injury.
I just wanted to share this experience with everyone so you can be
aware of this side effect in case you or your child sustains an injury
that requires the body's full attention in healing.

I do not have any idea how long each of you have been on your meds; however, my granddaughter had to be taken off Straterra after a couple of months as she began bruising - at first a little, a week or so later - a lot - and three weeks later the poor child looked as if she had been hit by a truck!! Had blood tests run and blood values were all fine - blood clotting factor was REALLY slow. The doctors feared the Straterra thinned her blood so much so that all she could do was bruise. Within 4 -6 weeks - she was fine (and still off the Straterra). EVERYONE should have a blood test at least every 6 months while on any of these meds. Perhaps you both may want to go have one now. Call your doctors and request one. Your bruising may have absolutely nothing to do with the meds at all, but you should still know that for sure. Good luck.

I have been taking Adderall XR 30 mgs for about 4 months now but just started Concerta today b/c Adderall makes me crabby. However, it's funny that you said your bruise was lasting longer than usual. I'm 20, female, and pretty healthy and active. About 3 weeks ago I acquired a bruise on the top of my foot and it's slightly faded but still purple and noticable. I thought I was maybe not getting enough iron but maybe it's the Adderall. I never noticed bruises lasting this long before. Also the change in circulation might be the reason why the nurse could only get one sample of blood when she pricked my finger instead of 2 or 3 a few weeks ago at the doctor. My hands and feet have been really cold to touch lately. So, thanks for your post. I had no idea that adderall had an effect on blood circulation.
I haven't noticed a significant change in the time it takes me to heal small wounds (i get a lot of those in my work).
I have been getting more sick since i moved from Europe to the USA (a
number of years ago) but i amount that to the smog in LA :)
I take a fairly low dose of Adderall XR (20mg) so i may not be the best 'subject' to comment on this.

ARe you on the generic adderall or the brand name? Are you on XR. I am having trouble feeling the affects. I am on 30 mgs of the generic twice a day. I am unhappy with the results. I'm on 40mg of XR a day. I take 2x20mg XR capsules every morning. It
gets me through my classes but the effects dwindle after about 7-8
hours. This leaves me in a predicament at night but I have a Doc apmpt
in a week, I'm gonna ask for the instant release for night time.
I read your other post also. You are experiencing some of the things I
experienced in the beginning. I noticed that after the first 2 days, I
didn't feel that great motivational energy or the good mood effect that
you described anymore. This was disappointing and I began to question
whether or not the medication was still working. I later found out that
it was...I just didn't get that great mental energy after the second
day, which stinks cause I felt that it cleared my mind up much more and
helped me get more done.
Day 3 and beyond (this is my 3rd week), the medication helped me stay
through classes and I noticed that the most important effect was the
way it settled the chaos in my brain, and helped my body relax instead
of being on edge all the time. I didn't realize that the medication was
working until I stopped taking it for two days, about 2 weeks in...then
I knew that it was working, just not the way it did for the first
couple days. One important thing i do notice is that Adderall makes me
somewhat antisocial, irritable, and depressed...but
It is absolutely vital that you maintain your body's nutrition level. I
found that after eating right, bringing a water bottle with me when i
go to class, and taking a multivitamin, it lessened those side effects
moderately. I definitely had some problems in the beginning, aside from
skepticism, and I'm still adjusting. But feel free to email me at
Dazeaway@gmail.com if you have some questions. Or just continue to post.
