RISPERDAL | ADHD Information

Share
Usually they do bloodwork to rule out physical "provable" health problems that have the same symptoms as the suspected mental "unprovable" problems. The bloodwork  checks for thyroid problems, vitamin deficiancies, liver and kidney functions, etc My ds is nine and has been on Risperdal for a couple of years.  It decreases his aggression.  Right now I'm weaning him off all meds (four of them) so we can re-evaluate.  He may be bipolar, also.  His current dx is severe ADHD/ODD.Has anyone had any dealings with this medicine? I had written a post earlier about my son could be bipolar. His regular psychiatrist thinks he may have ODD. But the neuro dr he is going thru testing with is suggesting bipolar. I don't know anymore. His anger is getting worse everyday! If anyone has any information please let me know! Thanks Drooling does not sound like a good thing to go thru. It's a balance in a sort I guess. My sons first night on Risperdal has been ok so far... Gave it to him before bed. Slept soundly. A little hard to wake up this morning. (not unusual) So far the reports from the babysitter are: he's been very quiet, had a rash on his bottom that he complained about and had two bowls of oatmeal (unusual).my son was on risperdal and we just weaned him off it and put him on abilify. the risperdal made him gain weight and he drooled really bad.the abilify didn't agree with him so my husband and i decided to take him off all the meds.it's only been 4 days and his aggression is coming back. i'm not sure what the doctor will try next. does anyone know how long it takes to for all the meds to get out of your system ?  i'm just wondering if my son is going thru withdrawls. i would call the doctor about the rash, that is one of the side effects.did the doctor go over the side effects with you? if not go on line and read about them.my son gained over 10 pounds in one month. how old is your son ? He is six years old. Amazes me the rash would appear after only one dose?At that age, he was pitching what I thought were tantrums. Falling out in the floor, hitting his head on the floor, biting the blood out of his brother, just lashing out.  This was only the beginning. Seemed to subside a little at four, then at five we were back again but worse.

Anger outburst: This includes, hitting himself in the head, calling himself stupid, growling (yes, growling) making terrible faces (rolling eyes in the back of his head, showing teeth) tantrums throwing himself to the ground, screaming, tensing every muscle, kicking, spitting @ someone if he does not get his way, says everyone hates him. Continuously interrupts. This not only has gotten me at my wits end but everyones that I am holding a conversation with.

Emotional: When he does something wrong, then will feel bad about it, apologizes and and asks for a hug/kiss. Crys if he cant stay at school all day. There have been about 5 incidents that I've had to pick him up.

This is just an example of what I go through.

what was your son like at 3 ?the doctors think my son may be bipolar or austim.at 1st they thought it was adhd. i am so sick and tired of all the guessing.i wish we could find out for sure.my son has violent outburst, swears, very hyper, spins, walks on toes, doesn't like to be around alot of people, lines toys up.i could go on and on. does your son act like this? my son is 3 and i would never had put him on meds but the 1st doctor did a eeg and said he was having seizures.found out he wasn't but still don't know what is wrong with my little guy. but i finally got him off the med's.Well, we go for an EEG on June 2nd. Did they do any type of blood work? no they didn't do blood work.. why are they doing blood work on your son? some people say they can tell if you have bipolar thru blood work but they can't.That is exactly what I have been told. But I am going to question that on the 2nd. What other reason would they do it? The weird thing is..... Bipolar is genetic. No one on my side has it, unless it goes way back. No one on his fathers side has it that he knows of. How about your family?bipolar doesn't run in my family i don't think but depression and adhd does..That's why I am questioning the whole bipolar diagnosis for my son. i wish there was some easy blood test that could tell us if our kids were adhd, bipolar or autism.i really hate the guessing game.nothing drives me more crazy then the guessing.by the way have you talk to the daycare and is your son doing okay ?

no no no

i got some kind of brain scan done to me and they never did N-E blood test on me.  they  put me to sleap but NO blood test done.

Well, my son has been on Risperdal for 5 days now. I see a good improvment. It's not what I would call a 100% turn around but I do notice great improvment with his anger.
