Do they ever get tired?

Our son goes to Martial Arts camp and I gotta say that they've made it VERY fun; but yet very tiring (on a 'normal' kid). But yet he seems to stay up for his 9:30 bedtime (since school is out) and still lays awake for a few minutes (not as long as before) only took him a few minutes last night after TV was off to go to sleep. Honestly I'd have figured that he would be asleep BEFORE the 9:30 bedtime (I wake him up at 7:20) for breakfast (but before camp he would already be awake) He sometimes ask for more TV time...but my ? is..do children with adhd EVER really get tired mentally??? Physically I know mine does and he gets cranky but wants to KEEP going. It's like our son has batteries and they NEVER stop. He yawns but says he's not tired...."oh noooooo mommy, not at all". Please let me know your input on your experiences with this.

My ds does it all....martial arts where they work very hard and tennis which is nothing much but running solid.  He's never, never, ever tired.  He goes to bed on a SCHOOL night at 9:30 and is up at 5:00 AM EVERY day.  It's very hard to not even have time for a cup of coffee before the circus starts!  He starts shouting in my face, in the dark, at 5:00!  Sure doesn't make the day start off very well.

I have wondered the same thing. My son would keep everyone in the house up until I put him in the corner so everyone else could fall asleep. Then he would go to bed. The other thing that is starting to keep him quite is reading before bed. I thought that day would never come. Which this part also confused me as well because he is not on any medicine at nite time but he can lay down and read for over an hour.

Im am so glad i found this forum. My kelsey has always been put on a schedule. She wakes up 6am and is in the bed by 8pm. She really doesnt get to bed until about 10pm . In the morning she up yelling and screaming she's hungry or she got to go the bathroom. I try to make here take a nap and thats always a no go.

We all could be rich if we could bottle that energy and sell it LOL

They never stop...school is out for my monkey and I can't believe it...HE'S STILL ASLEEP RIGHT NOW  but when he does get up  he will be non-stop and driving his brothers crazy

After reading some of the messages here on the board.  I called my Drs office to see if not sleeping is one of the symptoms of Adderall.  The Dr was not in but the nurse did say insomnia is one of the side effects from the Adderal.  I am going to speak with the Dr. tommorow about seeing what we can do to help.  Unfortunaley my son does not know how to read.  I do not mind the TV on as it helps keep him in the room.  He was in our bed everynight until this last year.  I like you try to be firm and put him back to bed at least twice.  I am so glad I am not alone...

I think I've got the only ADHD kid that asks to go to bed.  He knows when he's tired and knows he needs a good hour or longer to get to sleep.  He's 14 now, and occasionally will remind us that its bedtime if it looks like we're letting them stay up longer on the weekend.  When he was younger we spent our weekends boating and staying on islands, always with friends who had lots of kids around.  He was always the one to get all the parents to put the kids to bed, he would nag me until I had to and then the other parents would follow suit.  I think he just burns himself out during the day.  Now he says he should be able to stay up till he wants, but since we go to bed so early he's too scared to stay up by himself.  Anyway here's one weird kid that likes his sleep, although has trouble falling asleep sometimes-he has to read to get to sleep. My kid could stay up all night--the one ADHD symptom I continually see at home.  Once he's asleep, he sleeps like a rock, though.  I think he's going to be a 2nd or 3rd shift worker, for sure.

This is what I do with Matty and it has about an 80% effective rate.  He's 8 and in 3rd grade.

9:00pm .. into bed and he can watch 10-15 minutes of TV if he gets in bed with teeth brushed like I asked within ten minutes of my asking .. otherwise no TV.

9:30 .. After the TV is off he is allowed to read as long as he likes (he got interested in the Deltora Quest series by Emily Rodda and that has been a life saver, he reads all of the time now.) and until he falls asleep.

10:00 I go in and turn off his lights.

I am strict about the TV rule.  I am not nice when he gets out of bed to tell me he is scared or lonely for the third time .. I'll go and tuck him in again twice .. that's it.

If we hit 11:00 (not often) i usually cave and let him crawl in with me.  Sorry .. I can only be so tough and I get up at 6:00 so I have to go to sleep too!

My son is 6 and was diagnosed about 3 months ago with ADHD.  He started on 5mg and is now on 15mg each day.  He is bouncing off the walls in the morning usually 7:00 am and is not calmed down until his medicine kicks in.  IMy son to does activities he plays ice hockey, he does baseball, plays outside but never seems to calm down.  He does not however go to sleep until 11:00 p.m. to midnight we cannot get him to go to bed.  He is wide awake and expects someone to stay up with him.  We have recently started making him go to bed at 9:00 p.m. and he comes in our room at least 3 times usually to say he is not tired or that he needs to get something to eat or drink.  IT is like the day does not end or his brain does not shut down.  It is starting to wear on all of us not sure if this is a side effect of the medicine.  We dont want to take him off it as it is our only sanity.  When he does not take the medicine he drives us nuts.  Any advice!          I gotta say that 'if' we could bottle the 'energy' I'd be FIRST at the store to BUY it. Gesssshhhh...I can't believe that these children can stretch themselves to the point of exhaustion and then end up getting sick. By this I mean that I think that their lil' minds don't slow down so they keep going to the point of getting physcially ill - I know our son does this. He gets sick about every 6-7 weeks (almost like clock-work) with either sinusitutuis (spelling not right I'm sure) or throat infection, something and I truly feel that's it's because he doesn't STOP going and going and going. Anyone out there also have this problem of your child getting physically ill - I think it's like their immune system must get worn completely out...dunno. But.....I sure wish I had 1/4 of his energy.

My monkey doesn't get cold type sick but he always has a belly ache or his legs hurt etc. He's not on meds anymore either so I don't understand why all these body parts hurt...maybe cause he doesn't stop and rest at all. I thought that would go away with the bloody noses when the meds stopped.

Any of you have children with body aches that doesn't have to do with the meds?

I would love to have my monkeys energy
