off all medications | ADHD Information

some drugs take a little longer to get out of the system then others. therefore, the withdrawl may take a few days. he was on trileptal and risperdal ..  when you say "some take a while" what is a while ?  Some take a while, others just take a few days...what kind of meds is he on? i was just wondering does anyone know how long it takes for the medication to get out of your system? my son has been off his med's for 4 days now and i'm wondering if he is going thru withdrawls.Trileptal and Risperdal are mood stabilizing and antipsychotic drugs used for the treatment of bipolar disorder.  They aren't usually given for ADHD only.  Did you wean him off?  These types of drugs need to be discontinued through a slow weaning process, just like antidepressants.  Abrubtly stopping them can definately cause serious problems.  I am wondering why they were discontinued.  If they were being used to treat bipolar or a similar disorder, in addition to the bad side effects caused by abrubtly stopping the medication, you could be seeing a return of the mood symptoms.
