Adderall and "vocal tics" | ADHD Information

Share
Hi,

I was diagnosed with ADHD at age 3, and I'm 26 now.  I was on generic Ritalin as a child and adolescent, but went off of it after college.  I tried it again at one point because I was having trouble at work, but for some reason I didn't react to it as I had when I was younger--it made me shaky and unfocused, and well, it wasn't a good thing.  Long story short, I'm now on generic Adderall and taking it pretty regularly, twice a day, 10 mgs per dose.

The thing that I've been noticing is that I'm having trouble speaking sometimes--stuttering, sometimes I feel like a little electric shock in my brain and blurt out some kind of unintelligable vocalization before I can continue what I was saying.  It's like there's some kind of pressure in my brain preventing me from finishing what I'm saying, and the "brain zap" clears it.  These "brain zaps" or whatever happen randomly when I'm having conversations with people,  but they also seem to happen when I'm really trying to focus on one task and something unexpected either distracts or confuses me.

I'm wondering if this is the Adderall, and if so, should I try Straterra?  I didn't have health insurance for a long while and Adderall was the most economical choice, so that's really the only reason I've stuck with it.  I'm going to have health insurance again soon so I'm willing to take a chance on a more expensive medication if it'll help eliminate my little "brain zaps."

I'm hoping that this problem IS related to the medication and isn't a symptom of some horrible brain problem that's going to KILL ME.

Thanks for any help...
