Do you get lost in a parking lot! | ADHD Information

Okay, so what we're saying is that most of us are Wal-Mart shoppers, who can't find our cars, and there's a duck running around?

Seriously, for places I go to frequently I will park in the same general area.  For parking garages I park on the same floor--the top.  Usually there are so few cars there I can spot mine right away.  To get out of the garage w/out getting lost, I take any option that goes down hill, makes sense right?

We frequent the same places over and over and I have been finding myself looking for my car in the place that I parked it the LAST time I was there.......weird.......usually happens at restaraunts the most but has happened at Wal-Mart and Kroger, too.

Weird........

Surprisiongly, I don't have this problem, every now an then at Wal-mart I forget, but I just start walking towards where I think my car is and usually remember (usually see a car or a cart corral, which jogs my memory.

Happens to me quite often, I try to remember where I parked by lining up with somthing on the store, pharmacy sign at Target etc., I have walked all over the parking lot hitting the lock button on my keys so I can hear my car honk. Have to be fairly close for that to work. When I have my son with me, I can park in the handicapped spaces. That makes it easy to find the car.

I also have a horrible sense of direction. Get lost in the dark if I don't know the area. Puts me in a real panic sometimes. Thank goodness our daughter took after my husband in that respect, hopefully son will too.

I always try to park in the same spot or at least the same general area at work. Usually I have no problems buit occasionally there is no parking and I have to park someplace else. No big deal right, well it shouldn't be but I never remember. So after 12-16 hours at work I return to the parking lot and what is my first reaction .... Holy Sh*t someone stole my car. LOL I actually get a few seconds of worry followed by a few more seconds of intense anger and then I calm down a bit and think maybe I parked somewhere else this morning.

By this point in the day I don't even remember how I got to work so needless to say I walk the parking lot hoping to find my car. I'm never sure it wasn't stolen until I actually see it. The only thing I think about while I look is how much of a pain in the a** it's gonna be dealing with the police and my insurance company over this stupid stolen car. Generally the longer I search the angrier I get. After awhile I start grumbling out loud at why they stole my old sh*tty car and point out to myself all the nicer cars that should have been stolen instead.

Hello All

I dont know if you can get them in the US, but over here in England, you can get extra long range alarm clickers for your existing alarm system, they are for the visually impaired (so it says on the box) but I hate to think how many Visually Impaired people there are driving the roads.  Anyhow, you can set it for your lights to flash, or for a loud sound to beep, or both.  That way, you can always find your motor as long as you are in the right car park.  I dont use them, I gave up driving last year when I moved to a new district, I cant find my way for Sh*t, so I binned it and took the bus.

What I do is in a parking ramp or at a mall is write down where I am.  For example I write down closest store for mall or in a ramp the number or letter nearby as well as level 1 or 2.

I'm glad that works well for you.  I would end up losing the paper I wrote it down on and never find my car. lol

I have a recognizable car! I previously had a "rasberry" and grey truck
with a teal stripe! Now I have a Jeep Liberty Renegade--it has top lights.

The other thing I do is look at something on the building I am going to
that corresponds to the place I parked--i.e. i parked down the row that is
even with the "W" on the Wal-Mart sign....

Good luck!park in the same area when possible my wife does that. What I do is in a parking ramp or at a mall is write down where I am.  For example I write down closest store for mall or in a ramp the number or letter nearby as well as level 1 or 2.Yes, I use to especially at a huge mall or airport or such. Then I learned the importance of looking at those signs in parking lot sections. Sometimes it's a letter, sometimes it's a number, and sometimes it can be a piece of fruit, animal, etc...

I didn't use to pay attention to those until I had to have the police help me find my car one time. All worked out well in the end.

Hi guys,

I'm a responsible family man, Senior VP of my company...and often I can even find my way out of a parking lot. After I find my car that is.

Does anyone else experience this? How have you handled this? Any tips or tricks?

Directionally challenged,

I wish I could help you.  I have absolute zero sense of direction.  I drive to NYC often and each time I do it I get there a different way and I never drive home the same way either.  I do empathize though.  I know when I park someplace and I do it on a regular basis I try to park in the same spot every time.  I'm terrible at getting out of the parking lots though, I drive around in circles and eventually figure out how to go where I need to.
