Extreme Skin Irritations | ADHD Information

Share

The only time I notice skin irritations I am sound asleep and I wake up with itchy palms and the soles of my feet itch too.  I didn't know that was related to ADD.

Actually, skin issues is what got me tested/treated for ADHD (well--
finally drove me to get treated as an adult--I had been diagnosed 2 times
before and managed without meds)

I started out with some unknown rash--honestly looked like smallpox
(YIKES!), but as a veterinarian we figured it was some other pox strain--
heheheh. Well, it wouldn't clear up and I have a long history of skin
irritations--and we finally decided I was constantly "picking" at them--
was the subject of a grand rounds at the derm clinic and everything--
uggghhh--trying to figure out what it was.

I also get hives after a hot shower or exercise--to me it looks like blotchy
red skin, but supposedly it's hives.

Was treated for anxiety which helped some (I wasn't sure I wanted on
meds for ADHD as I had managed ok up until this point)--but when I
finally started on Stimulants I can recognize when I'm getting into pick
mode and manage to stop myself before I become a bloody mess!!

It isn't the TRUE skin-picking or hair pulling, but more related to the
sensation of a blemish that causes a type of itch and just plain boredom.
I'm a picker, you're a picker, wouldn't you liike to be a picker too!

Indirectly related...when I don't get enough sleep, my skin breaks out (acne-gross!). I'm very fair-skinned, so even after things heal, there's always a mark. I'm on Adderall, so there's oftentimes that I don't get enough sleep. Otherwise, I love Adderall - I just have to be careful about getting enough sleep.Try all laundry soap better for allergie people.Stay away from tide has toxins in it.We've been using the generic supermarket brand to save a buck.

There was an article posted on the forums previously about ADHD people suffering from skin irriations, sensitivity & suceptiblity to rashes.

I am one of those, and all of the above applies, but 2 things in particular drive me absolutely up the wall about it.

1. if I have even the slightest skin flaw, even so much as a tiny bug bite, I am driven mad until I have scratched the thing completely bloody. I just can't stand having it on me & try to remove it.

2. I live in the hot Florida sun and get rashes so easily, but I often forget to follow up with skin creams. I am then stuck with ugly red patches and unable to enjoy the public pool or tanning. I look like a ghost with red blothes. It's very annoying.

If anyone else in the forum wants to vent about skin problems, I can surely relate.
