aderall and night shift anyone got exp? | ADHD Information
I've been on Adderall XR for a month. I've been messing with my dosage
an timing, trying to avoid dips in energy. I think I metabolize the
time release slower than the drug itself, so I get really draggy
between the first release and the second.
I usually wake up around 8am and don't get to bed
until around 1am. I work a noon to 10 shift 5 days. I really need to be
productive in the morning becuase it's the only free time I get most
days. I also need to be on the ball in the middle of the day and have
to count money and stuff right at the end of my shift. After work I
usually go to the gym or watch movies.
I've got my dose down (for now). I take 20mg XR when
I wake up (anywhere from 8a to 930a). I take a second dose of 10mg XR
at 2pm. I build a tolerance fast so the 10mg isn't enough to keep me up
all night. It just smooths out the time between the first and second
release of the 20. Otherwise I get brain dead and draggy. It also helps
at night, which is when I normaly have more energy anyway.
I haven't noticed too many sleep related side
effects. I still get sleepy, but it's not urgent. Kind of like the
hunger. On Adderall you still get hungry, you just don't really feel
like it's important. The sleep is the same way. If I pay attention I
can tell when I'm tired. As soon as I hit the sack, I'm out. But if I
get involved in something I might stay up till 3 without realizing.
Hope this helps.
Oh, btw, I completely cut the caffeine out of my diet the second week I
was on Adderall XR. If you have trouble with energy swings and sleep, I
deffinately recomend doing this. It makes it a whole lot easier to get
things under control with only one addictive stimulant in your body a
time.
Provigil is a good medication often used for people who work shifts. It promotes wakefulness and alertness but still allows you to sleep when you want to. I have noticed a big improvement in my concentration level.I was diagnosed with adhd as a child(age 9) and was on meds for about 3 years and then the dr. took me off them and told me I would just grow out of it. Guess what I didn't and finally got to a point where I couldn't manage anymore with out something to help me.My new dr. has put me on aderall and it is working well but this is only the 3rd day I have been on it so I still don't know how well it's going to work. I work nights and my schedule is weird one week I work 5 nights in a row and am off 2 days then the next week I work nights 2 days and am off 5 well each week on wednesday I am always awake for 24 hours give or take a few. my first wednesday of taking it I took 10mg that morning when I got up then about 7 that night i took another 10mg so I could function at work through the night. I was wondering if any of you are on aderall or something similar and working nights or if you have had to try a couple different meds to find what works. If you have tried several meds and now are on one that works what is it and what previos meds have you tried.
