Ritalin Efficacy | ADHD Information

So glad to see that you found something that works for you.  I tried the ritalin XL and it did not work for me .  I am going to go back to the ritalin sustained release.

Hello All,

I am now on Ritalin after trying several non-stims.  I know that since I have been a member here, I have always wanted to get the down and dirty on the efficacy of the various meds to see which would be most effective on my ADD.  So for what it's worth and for anyone interested, this is my Ritalin history.  I'll make it concise.

Male, 44, married 22 years, 230 lbs/72", Full-time undergrad and full-time security officer.  Diagnosed 05/2003

Symptoms-Inattention, difficulty focusing on text, social anxiety, chronic tardiness/procrastination, messiness, inability to complete tasks.

Meds in order of prescription

Wellbutrine 300 mg x 3 mos-caused severe headaches otherwise useless

Effexor XR 75 mg x 1 mos - useless

Straterra 20, 40...120 mg x 6 mos - mild sex dysfunction and equally useless

Effexor XR 75 mg x 2 mos - plus Straterra - useless

Adderall 5 mg x 1 mos- useless.  Might have worked at higher dosage but shrink was chicken.

Cymbalta 60 mg x 2 weeks - mild hallucinations with audio, insomnia - useless

Fired shrink found new one. 4/2005

Ritalin LA 10 mg x 1 week - useless

Ritalin LA 20 mg x 1 week - useless

Ritalin LA 30 mg x 3 weeks - noticable improvement in all symtoms except messiness and tardiness.

Ritalin LA 30 mg plus Ritalin 10 mg as needed - AMAZING!!  So THIS is what it's like to be normal.  Still messy and tardy though.  Probably just bad habits to be worked out in therapy.

Now able to read for one hour or more without retracing my text.

Can complete any task once I start.  I.E. term papers, family bookeeping, yard work (you guys should see what I've with the place), house work, completed 3 applications for grad school in two days.

Hope this helps.
