Help - Taking Concerta/Ritalin together? | ADHD Information

Share

This should be fine since they are both ritalin based.  I did the same thing with Focalin, a derivative of ritalin.

This is known to happen with Concerta.  What I did was give my son 27 mgs on weekends, and then the 36 during the week.  That helped boost the effectiveness of the 36 for us.  don't know why...

My son takes 36mg Concerta which was working great up until a few days ago.  The hyperactivity is coming back so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with taking Concerta and 5 so mg of Ritalin in addition as needed, maybe once in the a.m. for school.  Does this help?

I have a call into our ped neuro and I believe she brought this up to me but it's been a while so I wanted to see if anyone had any input.

Thanks!

My son is taking 27mg of Concerta, and we supplement with anywhere from
2.5mg to 5mg of Ritalin. Usually we give him 3/4 of a 5mg tablet of Ritalin
just after breakfast in addition to the Concerta. It helps him focus enough
to get ready for school, and also to start his school day.

If he has karate or Little League after school, I also give him a "boost" of 1/2
or 3/4 of a 5mg tablet of Ritalin. This seems to work well.

On the weekend, we usually just go with the 27mg of Concerta with no
supplement of Ritalin.

Hope this helps you ...
