Extreme Fatigue from simple work | ADHD Information

I get extremely tired physically for doing the mental tasks others do at a swift pace in the office. It takes me forever to finish it, for all the back and forth looking away from the paperwork in fatigue & boredom. I just feel like laying down on the carpet for a nap by the time Friday arrives & fall asleep on my ride home from work. It doesn't matter whether I go to bed earlier at night or not. I will still stare at the ceiling until midnight.I always feel so spent at the end of the workday. I'm not physically tired - I sit pretty much 8 hours straight - I'm just mentally drained. My BF and I work at the same place (but not the same department), and while I sit in the car on the way home, he usually talks about his day. Most times it's all I can do to simply muster a series of "yeah"'s, or "that sucks"'s in answer. That's, of course, if I'm listening at all.

So I’ve just about finished my first full week at a new full-time job.  Getting back into the habit if ACTING professional and keeping my ‘humor’ to myself is very trying and exhausting.  Not that I wish this crappy thing on anyone, but it’s nice to know I’m not alone!
I fear the day I’ve learned most of the processes and systems at the new job—back to annoyance with the repetition…

I have the same exact thing. Some jobs are worse than others for me, it seems. I thought this new career would be better, but I literally came home from work today and fell asleep in my car in the driveway... I'm not exaggerating at all. I slept for an hour until I realized what had happened.

When I worked at a call center, I always felt very focused. My guess is that any job involving non-linear, non-novel tasks, will flare up my symptoms. What I don't get, however, is why I feel fatigued and foggy within 20 minutes of arriving to work (without seeing a single patient). It seems that just having to ACT professional (I'm usually very relaxed and crack jokes a lot) requires a lot of concentration. I'm very surprised, frustrated and depressed at this situation. I am going to try a homeopathic remedy... seems promising-- I'll let you know how it works. (Not concerta.. )

Reizende

I used to have this same problem. I had some bloodwork done and discovered I was anemic--low iron. Once I started a supplement, my energy level shot way up. MIndnumbing things aren't as tough now.

Just thought my experience could help. May want to consider getting your levels checked.

In what kinds of cognitive tasks or non-cognitive, for that matter, tasks do you find yourself having the most energy. How does that differ from the kind of work you do?

I'm not taking a survey or doing a study, I'm just interested in understanding the kinds of stuff you all are referring to.

In my own case, I've always been fired from jobs that didn't exercise my problem-solving functions, even when I tried. I make lots of errors because, I suppose, I really just don't care. Or at least my brain doesn't, even though my bank account does. Try explaining that to my brain!

Is this what you all are talking about? If so, I'd still really appreciate it if you would be specific so I can get a better idea.

Thanks!
