Homeopathic remedy... crock or not? | ADHD Information

I say try it and see. Even with prescriptions there is no miracle cure. Homeopathic remedies never helped me but I believe they can benefit some. They won't fix ADD  or even help as well as meds but they could give you some relief.

Just like with vitamins, does taking extra vitamins help ADD not directly. However eating a proper diet and getting the vitamins you need makes your body healthier overall. Since we are naturally more stressed when we are not healthy and since stress can exasperate(sp) ADD symptoms it makes sense that these types of things can help. Just don't expect a huge improvement or a magic cure because that won't happen.  MafiaKiddo38511.5178009259 My mother, knowing of my condition, ordered me a homeopathic remedy from her PT. She takes something from the same homeopathic company called ER 911 for anxiety and a general "Quieting effect on the nervous system." She gave me some tonight, and I actually felt a significant difference in the quality of my thought processes. It's made by N.E.T. Inc, but there is no website on the bottle. I don't generally believe in herbal substances, but I will let everyone know how it goes for me. I'm at my wits end at this point and will try anything but amphetamines (had a panic attack on Adderall).

Has anyone ever tried this? I know Reizende tried Concerta with no effects. Anyone heard of NET Inc?

Never heard of it, but did a search on ER 911 and this looks like what you're talking about. Hope this helps.

I don't think the stuff Reizende was using is called Concerta, because that's what my daughter takes and it's time-released Ritalin.  She used something else, it's on her older posts.

However, my same daughter does take a homeopathic remedy for migraines that she says really works.  So what the heck, try it, it certainly can't hurt.  One thing about Homeopathic remedies is that they are usually very mild with hardly any side effects that I've heard of.  In fact, that's what a lot of doctors have a problem with, that there's so little active ingredient that they shouldn't work at all.  But lots of people swear by them.

Homeopathic is not going to help if it is neuro related. They have cornered the market on the neuro pills and made them all prescrips.. and the small doses in homeopathic are not going to be enough to do it. Sorry.

Given how many folks here are talking about meds that once worked like a champ stopping working, and others recommending they try reducing their dose, I'm thinking that maybe seeing a good homeopath (and like I said, one who's also a good MD is my preference), would be really useful.

I'd LOVE to see some data on homeopathy and AD(H)D. If you run across some, won't you please let me know?

Thanks!

Interesting replies. Sorry about the typo on Concerta. Looks a lot like Clarocet :)

Belle: Yes, that's the same bottle I'm using. And I tried it for the first time Friday in the AM when I first got to work.

Everyday when I get to the hospital, I start having foggy symptoms shortly after I get in. I really don't know why I'm not foggy when I have to concentrate outside of work during a conversation, but maybe I'll be able to narrow down the reason soon.

On Friday, from 8 AM - 1:00 PM I have to say... I was the most focused I have ever been at this internship. My clinical instructor even noticed. My mother called at lunch to see how it was working, and I told her I was very very excited. After lunch, even though I took another dose at 1:00, I started feeling the fogginess. From 1 o'clock onward, I gradually reverted to my usual distractable self.

This was VERY frustrating, considering how good I felt in the morning. However, this particular herbal blend is not meant for ADD, but rather is indicated in anxiety, which is very closely related in my case.

One thing I will say that was different was that I ate two bananas in the morning for the first time ever in my life. Don't know if the increased potassium had something to do with my level of lucidity, but I will forego bananas on all week and will report back here. Tomorrow, my mother will be getting me the blend meant for ADD, so we'll see if I have more luck on that.

Thanks for the feedback and I might just go see an MD homeopath.

I took Clarocet AE. It took 1 month to start working, and it worked great for 1 month, then it stopped working. That's not the cycle I want. 8( I would have to stop taking it and start the process over.

I'm taking a course in alternative medicine this quarter in alternative medicine and have learned a fair amount about homeopathic medicine.

The reason many homeopathic medicines work is because of the properties of water, which from a number of studies is impacted and changed by the sucussion process (dilution and shaking), used to create them. Although many allopathic doctors and the scientific community, in general, tend to scoff at them, that's likely because 1) they're financial competition and 2) they're not familiar with the scientific studies (including quantum physics) that explains how and why they can work. (Watch the newly-released movie, "What the Bleep Do We Know?" for an explanation of some of the properties of water which can explain why the extremely diluted, shaken solutions of homeopathy can work from a physical standpoint. Fascinating stuff--but also just one resource. Studies by a Dr. Lo are another [although they're controversial, also, largely for economic reasons[). The pharmaceutical industry is pretty vigilant about trying to eliminate competition.

That said, one shouldn't take a homeopathic medicine, IMO, without consulting a homeopath because part of the treatment involves a much more thorough history than that taken by most allopathic doctors. Homeopaths believe that each individual is unique and it's therefore crucial to match the right medications and treatment plan with that individual. IOW, they don't just treat symptoms but people.

And a homeopathic remedy, even though it is a strong dilute and generally less toxic, CAN do damage if administered improperly and can be incompatible with other medications you're taking.

If I were to choose a homeopath, I'd want someone who is also an MD in order to get the best of both worlds. Both work, sometimes, and together have a better change to help a given individual. And there are many MDs, many of them very notable, who've become homeopaths, so that should tell you something about the validity of the holistic homeopathic philosophy.
