The New Girl/Cylert | ADHD Information
Hello all,
I started taking Cylert in college for ADD. I was doing quite poorly and
was diagnosed with both depression and ADD. When I started taking
Ritalin, I found that it really spaced me out, but then I tried Cylert and my
whole life changed.
I had been taking Cylert for the last 8 years or so. I stopped one year ago
because I wanted to get pregnant. This last year has been a difficult one,
both because it's obviously taken a lot longer to get pg than I thought,
and thus I have been unmedicated.
My coping skills are deteriorating. I have extra projects to do at work
that I can't possibly focus on, and so I simply do not do them. I space out
during conversations with other people because I can't hold my attention
to what they're saying, even if it is interesting.
I will stay off drugs until I manage to get pg, and will be off of them until
I've given birth.
I just found out today that Cylert is no longer being made. I'm not quite
sure what to make of this news, as I have not tried anything else but
Ritalin in the past. I hope something else will work for me.
Has anyone on this board ever taken Cylert? I've read a few pages of
posts and have not come across anyone else taking this. It worked really
well for me, despite having to get liver enzymes checked often.
Do any of these other drugs (Adderall, Strattera, Concerta) require lab
tests?
I tried Cylert for a while back in the day. It didn't work for me really. I take adderall now and to me it seems much more effective. You have to watch your blood pressure on it though. Start on very small doses and work your way up to find the smallest effective dose.
Hiya! I wasjust diagnosed 8 months ago myself and have tried a few
different medications.
I too, feel , that Ritalin is very evil, for myself, and the man i'm dating;
Adderall seems to work best for both of us at the moment. My bp did
get out of control on it , while for him, he can take an amount that
would kill a small elephant =P
My doctor, has me on a bp med (very low dose) for this and that keeps the negative effect at bay...THANK GOD...
ON adderall, I have noticed (as i take generic) that all generics are
NOT created equal. D-amphetamine salt combo (from our local walgreens)
seems to work best for me, while the Ampetamine salt combo from
*Shopko* which is priced 25$ less if you buy it right out, feels more
like ritalin to me , that- and heart thumpy dexadrine( my sweet other
agrees). That said, if you do find yourself on the adderall, try
a few different places of purchace. I feel the manufacturers make
different grades for different places (that or they have just seriously
messed something up); not to mention that the differences between manufactureres themselves are astounding.
most importantly though:
Best of luck to you, I really admire what you're doing. I wondered what
I would do if i wanted to get pg myself, I'm not sure I'm as
brave as you are. I'm not sure I'm willing to sacrifce my quality of
life - or my job. It's such a hard choice. You are absolutely noble and
fearless for making this choice. Do we have threads for that kind of
issue here?
SWEET LORD! My boyfriend's(god, im just too old to say that) doctor
suggested he take off a month (to get a fresh start with the
medication) - We balked, thinking " Do you comprehend what you are
suggesting?"
a. You compromise yourself at work
b. with family
c. Friends
d. moods- instability, overwhelmed
It's like stealing a month of your life! NOT TO MENTION a year
trying to get pg and the ensueing 8 months after...(or more if
you decide to nurse). I snap when they suggest trying a new medication
- I just don't want to lose one more day. you know? of course you know!
Have you talked to your docter about trying strattera?
All i know is that it's non-amphetamine based, and that might hold you over until you get pregnant. I'm not sure.
Until then I would forgive yourself for *everything*, keep outside
stimulation low if you feel easily overwhelmed. Listen to yourself for
what you need. If you need to withdraw, do it. If you need to ride
roller-coasters daily, do it!
Whatever that may be, you know yourself best.
*big hugs*
