Just wondered whether AD(H)D is a condition covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act. If so, has anyone asked for "reasonable accommodation" for it?
If yes, what kind of accommodations have you requested and what was your employer's response?
sachetm38510.7304513889Some of this is from my experiences, others', and things I've read. AD(H)D is covered under ADA, asking for reasonable accommodations through school is common (untimed tests/exams things like that). What I experienced at work when I asked for reasonable accomodations was that I was told that if the conditions I work in weren't right then I shouldn't be working there. I knew what the job entailed because I received a job description. I replied that a) no one told me that I would be chained to a desk and that every tenth of a second I wasn't on the phone would count against me and b) that since I started my job description had changed, so it wouldn't hold. I got a few accomodations. If you're planning on trying to get on disability benefits, I've been told that you need to have an official diagnosis and have other conditions present along w/it before they will even consider it.
