Antidepressants with ADHD Meds | ADHD Information

Hi, well I have been on several medications throughout my life.  I too am extremely moody.  When I was on Ritalin (@19) the doctors put me on Welbutrin.  I was on Welbutrin for three years.  It works really well.  And at one point that was the only thing I was on.  Also now they have the extended release which is nice.  Hope this helps.

here's what works for me...

i had bad mood swings on concerta.

what helps is taking it in the morning before you eat anything and then wait 10 to 15 minutes and then eat.  it sounds stupid but it made a hell of a differnce for me.

orrrrrr

what i do now is take a small dosage of straterra along with my concerta .

straterra can work as kind of a mild anti depressant (i had no intention of using prozac or anyhing really out there)

hope you find what works well for your daughter

Thank you all for you input. It's nice to hear what other have experienced!!!If the mood swings are due to the stimulant, an antidepressant probably won't help.   The 'official way' to treat moodiness is to use a long-acting stimulant or switch to another medicine.  Alternatively you can add a little of an immediate release stimulant at the end of the extended release dose so the blood concentration doesn't drop so fast.I've been taking Paxil and Carbatrol ER along with Concerta. However, I don't believe the Concerta has done much for my focusing or concentration. Perhaps it's helped a little with my mind spinning out of control. I'm not sure, so my doctor has me weaning myself off the Concerta to see if I feel any difference w/o it.

The Paxil and Carbatrol (which I took for some time before starting Concerta) has helped with depression and mood swings/anger.I wanted some advise in anyone has used a Ritalin LA (or Concerta) with an antidepressant. My daughter can get very moody thought out the day and I was wondering what an antidepressant could do. The doctor has sent up to see a physiologist to have the meds evaluated. The Ritalin works well but the mood swing are unbearable.OK, this is SO NOT what you are asking, but hey, I feel like typing. I am a 30 yr old male. I have been on adderall for 3+ years and have taken Remron, Welbutrin, and celexa. The Remron made me tired, but other than that i liked it. It actually could be good for a kid, knock them out at night; plus the tabs were chewable!  then the welbutrin which i hung with for more than a year. no complaints but on a whim changed to Celexa and have been on that for about 6 months and I think that i feel better on the Celexa.

All that to say that I think that many add meds work well with the antidepresants, and I wish i was on this stuff as a kid bc i was a wreck!
