They have been tried for years by people but because they are not tested or fda regulated, it is wise to consult your childs physician before making any decisions about a course of treatment for your child. With regard to medication, when the right medication and the right dose is determined for that particular child, enhancing the effects are not necesarry because medication in itself is one of the tools that very effectively manages the symptoms of ADHD. Good luck

I'm not educated enough myself to start playing around with vits, minerals, amino acids, etc....that's why we've started seeing a naturopathic doctor.

Taking individual supplements in moderate doses is probably not harmful.  Weight loss "cocktails", however, are a bad idea.  They contain a combination of chemicals (natural chemicals, most which have not been studied when combined), similar to amphetamines.  Mixing so many chemicals is never a good idea.  Probably won't kill you, but ask your doctor.  He will probably be weary, since there is very little scientific data.

Has anyone's psychiatrist, etc., mentioned the use of supplements (bad or good)?

I just started taking my son to a naturopathic doctor.  We have only been once so far, and he immediately started ds on Nordic Natural's Cod Liver Oil (1 teas. daily) and Borage Seed Oil (one 1300mg cap daily).  My boy is 8 years old, 75 lbs.

I made a post (metabolic analysis) about all the testing that this doc has ordered before giving anything else.

My son takes Flaxseed Oil 1000mg, a B Complex with Vitamin C and Pediatri Vite 124. I wanted natural things in his body as well as the meds. I was hoping to stop the meds. but thge supplements are not enough for him without meds.

Greetings all,

Just curious if any of you take supplements in addition to your ADHD medications.  Things like L-tyrosine (building block for dopamine) or 5-HTP (building block for serotonin) OR any other supplements.

Did/Do the supplements help, can't tell the difference, or adverse results?

Info on anyone's past experiences would be helpful!!!

Thanks

I am currently taking only supplements.

Omega 3 fatty acids/ coq10

Alpha lipoic acid/ l- carnitine

natures way B-stress

Ginko Biloba

They are working on my focus and lack of energy, it is helping with memory too.  I was taking 5-htp, but it caused upset stomach really bad, so I had to stop it.  I am going to try TMG.  I am not a big fan of nordic naturals.  But my kids like the kid ones.

I tried straterra, loved it but it gave me chest pain & palpitations, so did alderall.  I may try wellbutrin next month.

good luck

These are fabulous links! Thanks.  I'm going to copy and paste them over on the new board too, if you don't mind.

supplements at one time are all there was. They have been used for years. before a inst. was where you where put. Ask a dieatician not a DR. on this they are the ones that no about this not Dr.'s. See Ken Hovin's materials it explains about the universe he is a person well educated on this.
