Concerta | ADHD Information
JMW...Okay, when I began Concerta, I took 18mg of Concerta for one month, and didn't feel anything either, although my body was acclimating to it, even tho I didn't realize it, preparing itself for a higher dosage(s). Then I was increased to 36mg. And then to 54mg. It was like my mind was clearer, and I was able to focus better.
I had a headache the first 3 days on 36mg, but that went away. I take mine before 8am, and even tho I started to lose my appetite, I still eating breakfast and a few small meals during the day, as recommended by my pharmacist. Drink LOTS of water. You'll probably be getting thirsty, and it's a good way to get your daily recommended H20.
It is important to take it with a whole glass of water (8oz or more). This is necessary for the 'capsule' to dissolve properly in order to get the correct dosages released....since it is a time-released med. I know I was told to do this when I first started taking it, and saw a definite difference once I began drinking a whole glass when I took it in the AM.
Before taking Concerta, I slept very little. I'm now getting to sleep when I want to, and sleeping through the night. But this didn't occur until I started 36mg. And gave up my coffee.
So I recommend you keep taking it, because everyone reacts differently to different ADHD meds. But I recommend taking one long enough to really know if it works or not. Not giving up. ADHD meds usually take a while for your body to acclimate to and usually don't work immediately. Remember that you must also work along with your meds. . . They don't do it all for you. . . a lot is up to you, as well. Also remember, at 18 and 36mg I also didn't feel anything improve. It's a much milder stimulant than Adderall and other stimulants used for AD/HD. And you should not feel that "speedy" affect that some people think they will on a stimulant, since ADHD meds tend to slow us down, focus us. But eventually, hopefully, it will assist you in focusing, which will help with other ADHD matters.
Some people have success with Concerta, some don't. That's why I also also recommend not increasing your dosage without conferring with your doctor. It's important that your doctor regulates your meds. And stimulants need to be prescribed monthly, since they are "controlled-substances."
Good luck!

I was just "diagnosed" with ADD. The Psychiatrist told me that Concerta would be benefical for me since I am bored easily, and a constant clock watcher. Sometimes not having anything to do and sit idle for long periods of time causes great anxiety to me. I am apparently, understimulated mentaly. I bought the Concerta 18MG that my Dr. prescribed after paying the whopping .72 at Walgreens. I tokk the 18 mg and I felt NOTHING at all. So today I took two 18MG to equal the higher dose of 36MG pill. The dose of 36 MG didnt even touch me! I feel quieter perhaps but I certainly cant focus any better, at least not noticibly. I am so distracted when I try to read, I am sure I would be able to tell if there was a difference. Has anyone taken the Concerta in these doses and found them to not work? What did you go on next? Thanks
