Thank you for all the feedback! I didn't even think my topic would be seen by anyone.
Anyhow, I am particularly interested in Hemmies response. You really had similar symptoms? I haven't found anyone w/ a clue or knew what might me wrong...
The biggest concern of mine is not smoking (I only started last Nov.) or dry mouth (I have been battling Wellbutrin's dry-mouth-syndrome for almost a year now... I pretty much a pro by now). I am going insane from this receding gums issue!!!
It makes me crazy; I don't even want to smile. So strange.
Alright, so majorly, my gums are inflamed and receding, I have halitosis that makes ME want to break up with me, and a swollen tongue now w/ some crazy bumps in the way back and sides of it, and every time I do anything hygienically useful everything bleeds and hurts. It sucks so bad.
I have a tongue scraper but I cant even use it. It is so unnecessarily painful. But thank God its a vibrating tongue scraper. [So unnecessary.] Later today, I am going to go pick up one of those new vibrating razors & then I can have vibrated shaved legs & I a vibrated-tongue...?!?!
I just want to know WHY this is happening & what can I do to stop it?!? I cant imagine that it is from my meds... Although I have read that "bleeding gums" is actually a side effect of some anti-depressants. This oral issue is fairly new though when you compare it to how long I have been on Wellbutrin, when I have stopped use of it, when I started to use it again, & my dosage.
The only answer I can THINK of is that I am drinking the wrong thing. I prefer a glass or 2 of white wine after work (Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, or Fume Blanc). I came across an article online pointing out how white wine could affect your oral health negatively if drank too regularly, because its so highly acidic. The lighter the white wine (Chardonnay being the heaviest), the more the acidity... So there yah go. I have switched to red wine (probably better since red is so beneficial--so bring on the Pinot Noir!). I am just really tired now after 2 glasses.
Alright, long posting again. My bad, but I have ADD. If anyone has anything they can add that may be useful, it would be highly appreciated. Im going to log onto eBay & buy a Sonicare toothbrush (ooh & it vibrates)... Yes!
Thanks again!
Another thing to look at:
Have your eating habits changed? Could receding gums be a sign of poor nutrition? How's your weight?
I would suspect dry mouth due to meds, and not drinking enough water...not coffee, tea, pop, etc., but good old water...might alleviate some mouth/gum problems. And, of course, Hemmie's solution as well.I’ve noticed an increase in thirst (slightly dry mouth) after starting Adderall XR. I also want to brush my teeth more frequently (maybe ‘cause my mouth felt dry). The only other odd thing I noticed is that my mouth seems to be a bit more sensitive to acids—like pineapple. Pineapple seems to burn more than it used to. Maybe all of this IS related?!?! PS. I have always smoked cigarettes and I drink beer (1 or 2) around 2 or 3 nights a week. I will admit that my desire to smoke has increased and I pretty much give into that—I’ve been smoking more than I used to—maybe that’s causing the mouth issues!?!? Who knows...OH—I took wellbutrin (years ago to stop smoking!) and the dry mouth from that drug was the WORST.
Im not sure if this is an issue related to the drugs that I am taking, but thought I would post the question anyhow. I am so embarrassed! The strangest thing has happened to my mouth!
My gums are receding and looking very gingivutus/pre-perodontitus like. I am also, as of last week, gettiing pencil eraser sie bumps on the far back of my tongue, smaller bumps on the middle and sides, my tongue is swelling a bit and feels just like I had hot soup yesterday and burnt the crap out of it. To top it off, I have horrible halitosis or something. Its like this every day!
I have been to the dentist, ofcourse, and was told that my gingiva was acting curious. Big help. I didnt have alot of plaque build up, always take pretty good care of my teeth, and have never had teeth/gum/tongue problems, ever!!!! He told me to brush and use Glyoxide and floss. This should have made it better but it has not.
There are other factors to my lifestyle, and Im just chancing that this posting will reach someone who can help me. I was smoking Clove cigarettes att the time this started but immediately stopped after the dentist appointment. I started smoking tobacco cigarettes but lately have been smoking none or a couple (I will get there, give me acouple more days, it has only been 4). I drink about 2 glasses of wine a night (after work... I love it). I have recently switched my meds from Ritalin to Adderall XR. I like it. I am also taking Wellbutrin SR (generic) in conjunction.
I cannot place a certain drug change or combination to the time period when this gum-issue started... Can anyone help me?!?
