I wouldn't worry about addiction until you reach the maximum dose, and keep popping pills.  My point is that 5mg certianly isn't dangerous;  I'm suprised it has any effect on you at all.  I'm 153 and I need 40mg to deal with my ADD. 5 mg is the minimum active dose.  Mice can tolerate doses up to 48mg/kg, equatable to 3000mg Adderall (non-XR) for a 150lb human, and the LD50 (dose that kills half of all lab rats) is twice that.  40mg/day is the largest tested dose in adults [which has been "proven" save], but doctors will typically prescribe up to 60mg (and on rare occasions up to 100mg).  As for addiction, it caries the same risk as other stimulants.  It is somewhere between caffine and estacy as far as addiction, and estacy pales in comparison to heroine addiction.  Overall, Adderall is safe and [non-addictive] when prescribed, for the simple reason that you cannot take more than the amount prescribed (at least not for very long, eventually your script will run out). yeah....so?Im on 5 mg of adderall once or twice a day, depending on teh day. i take it cause i play better at sports, do better with girls, it gets rid of randomly formed anxiety and if i need to study. Its a small change, but it helps a LOT. I am worried that im going to get addicted but im told taht 5 mg is not a lot esspecially for someone 6 5 and 180 pounds.Should i be concerned with addiction? Also, someone told me that when they dont take their pills they become worse than they did before they started with adderall. They say it feels like there is so many thoughts going through their head they cannot even speak. Dosaging of stimulant medication is not determined by height and weight. It is determined by the metabolic rate of absorption. Everyone responds differently. If the medication is taken as prescirbed, you shouldnt be worried about addiction. Its not the dose of medication that is dangerous, its the person who abuses it that creates a dangerous situation in terms of addiction and health. Like any other medication on the market, its unsafe and unwise not to take as precribed.I am sorry Luv, but addiction dosen't work quite that black and white. If a drug makes you feel good and then you are faced with a "coming down effect" you can very easily get addicted. I started out with the minimal doses of ritalin and got hooked quickly. I think perhaps meds that have a longer life span in the system are probably better. Plus everyone is different.

Main thing is, and the most important answer, if you have concerns about chemical dependency, talk to your thearpist.  Even though what you are saying is not a "abuser" trait, the doctor needs to educate you regarding the meds.

That quote I have a question.  You are a AD/HD patient correct, and it is prescribed to you.  If you are a AD/HD patient, well the reasons you listed is the effect the doctor is looking for.

Thats correct, issues of addiction are not black and white but the subject is about the fact that dosaging of stimulant medication is not measured by height and weight and thats the point I was making When you speak of "coming down effect" what you are describing is rebound. This is why its important to keep in close contact with your physcian because patients have to go through a trial of meds before the right dose and the right medication is found. Ritilan should go in quietly and leave quietly and if it doesnt, the physician should be notified and adjustments should be made. Long acting formulas are better for some people but its all very individual. Some patients experience stimulant rebound which is a period of negative mood, fatigue or increased activity when the medication is wearing off. This can be remedied by either adjusting the dose or changing the medication. If the patient is taking more than prescribed of ritilan when the intial dose is effective, taking more will more will not make you feel even better. What makes you feel good about yourself is hitting the target dose because it unlocks your potential.. The goal is maximum benefit with minimal side effects but parents should know that it is all very individual. What works for one person may not work for the other and thats why its important to notify the physician if adverse side effects are seen.

How long have you been taking it? 5 mgs is a strong dose. For me (I take anywhere from 20 to 30 twice a day of the brand name. If you just started it and you are feeling you like the way you feel, I can almost garentee you will lose that feeling due to tolerance and your dose will be raised if that is what you want. If a higher dose works for you and you and totally loving the feeling, that is when addiction kicks in. I don't take mine correctly. But I never overuse my dosage. I have a higher quanity and mgs so I can manipulate my intake eachday according to how I feel. Just worry about the postive affects of your adderall wearing off and craving to feel that same affect which is hard to obtain after tolerance has set in. Even raising the dosage doesn't help in some cases. Immunity sucks. But so does addiction. I am a victum of both. Are you considering upping your mgs? If so brand name adderall is the way to go.You will not be able to get enough addrall to get addicted. 5 mg a day is simply nothing, it would equal 1 tablespoon of beer. My starting dose was 60 MG a day.
