i just read a post about a mother who thinks her child is bi polar and gave the description that others think he is the sweetest boy, well mannered, all that nice stuff  and all they see is the hyperactivity. At home hes disobident talks back and hes only good when he gets way. this describes me unbelievably....over the past year i just started being really nice to my family but like every family we still fight and such....but if i can be nice and good to them, and i can be a nicer better person simply by willing it after yeaers of willing it but venting on them, then could i really not be bi polar? could that ladies son do the same? i think its very difficult to tell now thinking back on it. shoul di go and get diagnosed again? ive been taking adderall and its made me a much smoother person, not as crazy and fun as before i guess but not annoying either. should we all see if maybe these disorders are even real?

I'm not a doctor....just relaying what I was told.

Study BP by reading lots of info, and then see what YOU think. That's what I did, and I was not convinced at all that my son was BP (at this time anyway).  If you still feel uncertain, see a qualified professional.

When my son was dx'd as BP, I took him to one of the top psych hospitals in the country to see a doc that specialized in child BP....I wanted BP either ruled out or confirmed by him.  I brought video tapes of him acting out and everything.

This doc made it very clear that BP can not be turned off and on like a switch...it is a state of mind and not a reaction to a situation. BP was ruled out.
