yelling!!!

I'm new to the board today and I've read a few of your replys.  You all seem to have great advice, so maybe you can help me.

My son is almost 5 and we have had problems with him running every time his feet hit the floor since he was about 2.  My entire family told us it was just normal boy behavior.  The doctors said otherwise.  He finally got started on ritalin 2months ago, and it has helped to calm him and I can now take him in the store without him running off as soon as he gets out of the car.

But, for some reason he still yells constantly.  He did have some hearing problems when he was a baby and he had tubes put in his ears, but the doctors have tested his hearing and said everything checks out fine.  They have no reasons for his yelling, but no matter what I do he will not stop.  I mean at breakfast he yells, he yells while he's playing game, and all day long he yells.  I have sort of gotten used to it, but when people come over or I take him places people comment on how loud he is all the time.  Does anyone have any advice.  I will consider anything.

does he have muffled hearing or ringing?  have him put his fingers in his ears and see if it sounds different than with out his ears plugged.Have you had him checked out lately?? I don't know maybe some kids have loud voices and to you or me that may sound like yelling. I'm stumped, i don't have a clue. sorry...... My son is extremely loud....was told it was some sensory modulation thing with him.  In OT he is learning to regulate his tone and volume. Tater38526.492349537

Okay .. my son does this.  Do you also notice that he is extra sensitive to certain sounds?  Like covers his ears when the toilet flushes, can't stand loud music anything like that?  Or when you ask him questions or talk to him does he reflxively say "what?" or does it take him a couple seconds to process what you have said?  or does he take a long time to respond and when you promt him he says "I am thinking"?

Matt has some auditory processing issues that overlap his ADD.  We are going to take him to a speech pathologist.  It's not a hearing problem but a processing issue.  You may want to look into that.  A Neurologist or a neuro-psych can help with diagnosis.

My SD is really loud as well. When we are talking, I find that if I noticably lower my volume she follows suit. She just does not realize that she is too loud. I also say things like 12 inch voice--meaning no one past a foot should hear her. She gets more of a visual sense with this, than saying inside voice. But yes, it takes constant reminders, and I don't have any other suggestions. I hope this helps you.[QUOTE=tisacson]

My son does all of the above and has been CAPD evaluated with negative results.  Most, if not all, of the things you describe are also typical ADHD and/or SPD stuff.
