Lazy? | ADHD Information

Hi, only my second post so forgive me if this should be in another place, I'll just batter on and see. I have been recently (1 year) diagnosed as ADD after years of thinking I was just plain dumb, funny like that, no? All that I once thought of as "just me" turns out to be managed by a pill. Drugs are no stranger to my life and I have always enjoyed the calming effect of speed, sometimes falling asleep on large doses. Anyway, I now have Rilitine to clear the cobwebs from the dusty corners of my mind, a kinda' mental janitor that walks around flicking lights on in under used but still functional rooms. And it helps. What I wanted to ask though was this; Whenever the topic of my ADD comes up there's always this stigma attached that I should be hyperactive. Well, that's just not the case. Unless I have something that I really want to do 'i.e. party, something fun, you know?) I can sleep the clock round, taking one cat nap after another until the day & night are gone.  My energy levels always seem to be in the wrong order. It's not just a case of sleep paterns as I have varied and do get enough quality snooze time, it's just, maybe it is just boredom? Do you think so? My mind wants to shut down at times, eyes demand to close and mental grasp weakens and slips..............ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzz just like that. Meetings, conference calls, mid talk with customerZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzz

Sounds a bit like me, that.  It's not me that's hyperactive, it's my foot - constantly tapping and twitching while I sit and vegetate.  If I consciously stop the tapping foot my fingers will start drumming, etc.  If I stop all tapping, drumming, fiddling, etc. I have to get up and move around - the hyperactive thing has to go somewhere, I guess.

I think I was pretty lively when I was a kid though, and the constant clips around the ear and shouts of "sit still!" might have had something to do with my hyper turning into a fidget.

Nice to see another Brit on here.

ColGunk,

I do that.  I've always been one that HAS to have 8 hours of sleep a night, I could sleep 15 hours before having to get up for food, etc.  I also can sleep anytime, anywhere.  Best I ever got at it?  Was in Air Force Technical school, they made us march to and from school.  I learned how to sleep while marching to school!

Now I don't know what's normal anymore, I have a 9mo son who refuses to sleep through the night.  And I have to work full time...

I have the same problem. I can not even be on time to work. I cant clean my house. I am soooooo lazy. I would like for the stuff to be done. I think about doing it. Then something always sounds better. I told my Dr that and she gave me Provigil. It has been working great!! It is for people with narcelpscy. I take that and ritalin 1 hour before I have to get up. It works pretty good until about 1:30. Then I get lazy! If I take a ritalin again then I am still kinda lazy at work. When I get home I will clean up some stuff. I undertsand the lazy thing. My room is so messy. However I know where everything is. My dishwasher will be empty I will still but my dishes in the sink. It is crazy how in order to function I have to be tweeking. I have become much the same... a very lethargic ADD, ADLD. It has been
about a month since i began taking Adderall, and it has changed everything.
I even sleep better at nigh because i can wipe my mind clear of all the
pressures of the work day. I actually keep a proper notebook of "To Do's",
and even when i dont complete every task at hand, i dont get flustered over
it. As a kid i was not given Riddlin, but if i had i couldn't imagine how much
better my years could have been... but as a 25 year old, i am so happy that i
have finally taken control of my life!

If I remember right, quite a few people with ADD/ADHD have disturbed sleeping patterns.  You may want to look into it.  I found out that I do have sleeping problems.  Even when I think I'm getting good sleep, I'm not.
