I just got back from a weekend with four college friends in Las Vegas. All I can say is, whoa, there is an unbelievable amount of stimuli there. This was my first time there, so I wasn't sure what to expect.
I definitely felt the stimulus overload, but since there was no requirements or agenda to accomplish, I didn't stress out or fold, I just went with the flow.
Anyone else have impressions of this most shiny and flashy of places as it relates to ADD or AD/HD?
But I must advise that it would be very, very dangerous for an ADDer with any hint of a gambling problem.
Oh, no doubt about THAT!
Luckily I had a healthy fear of my ADD and I've never gambled before, but I know how to employ trading strategies and statistics to investments, so I sat by the pool the first day and rrread a brochure on Craps.
I went to the pits when it was fairly quiet and stuck to my trading strategy and stop loss techniques from investing, and I was able to win some good money without getting overwhelmed or stupid with risk. I was able to stay focused on the strategy without letting my mind or eyes wander. Maybe it was the Adderall, LOL.
All in all, I had a really good time, but if I was there more than a weekend, I would definitely start cracking in terms of staying in a good mental state. I can see where people start to lose sight of the shore and wander into dangerous waters.
Last time I was in Vegas, it was like ADD heaven (or hell). Something to look at every minute. I gamble very little (which is a good thing), we were just there for food, drink, shows, shopping, and people watching. But it was a blast. A non-stop buzz. But I must advise that it would be very, very dangerous for an ADDer with any hint of a gambling problem. I know the first (and last) time I was in Las Vegas I was totally overwhelmed with the sounds...bells et al! I can't say I really enjoyed that sort of stimuli. But I'm also very sensitive to sounds, so that was just me.
