I find it interesting that doctors who "KNOW" ADHD seem to taunt those who have it by scheduling appointments out two...three weeks. (as if we can wait patiently. It's been over a month for me; so I'm testy now) I was searching the internet today for books on the subject and came across one that was highly recommended:"YOU MEAN I'M NOT LAZY, STUPID OR CRAZY?!: A Self-help Book for Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder"
Your kidding right? This book is 420 pages long! How in the world would one get through it in time to learn about their ADHD in a timely fashion? The cover looks like one of the "dummy" books. You know; like "Windows for Dummies" I would like to find a well written pamphlet on ADD and ADHD. Does anyone have a suggestion?
My doctor said when telling me he had to refer me to someone; "Hey; you've been living with it for 50 years; whats a couple more days; right?" That was a month ago. How come that addage doesn't really hit home with truth?
Good one! 420 pages... I don't understand either why they make long books/articles for people with ADHD. Just give me the short and sweet version, it it interests me, I'll find more info.
CHADD.com was a good site, easy to navigate, lost of helpful hints, and each article was SHORT and the topics in each section the article covered were in bold. Here's their "resource sheets" site: http://www.help4adhd.org/en/about/irslist
The CDC site was a good briefing too. http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/adhd/
Oh yeah here's a phamplet like site too: http://www.livingwithadd.com/tips.shtml
Just did a big research project on this, can you tell? Hope these help, they're not phamplets but it helped me alot with tips and easy reading. Good luck!
On the following web site is a really good fairly short explaination of ADHD. I know the site name has pediatric in it but I believe it applies to adults also.

I liked that first post. It rings so true. My doc does the same, booking appointments several weeks apart. On my last appointment she told me to call the receptioon the next day and book an appointment for three weeks time, I did and when I phoned in reception told me she was on holiday in three weeks. aargh! Sometimes I think she's just doing it to test me
It's all funny tho

LOL.. there is irony everywhere.
I've had the same feelings when seeing my 'Drug Dealer'. He's pretty good about writing it out for me, butt i have to be sure to pin it on the bulletin board first thing when i get home. If i don't, i lose it and end up estimating and calling a couple of days before I think i'm supposed to be there.
Sometimes i wish he would pin it to my shirt and send me straight home to my girlfriend. lol.
As for the book, "you mean i'm..." it's co-authors are both diagnosed ADHD folks and they wrote it specifically with us tards in mind. IMO, 420 pages means that the authors know what they're talking about. That was the first book that i read when i was wondering if i had ADHD, and I use it as a sort of bible these days.
It is funny to think about a book that big for ADHD'ers though.
I won't be reading Moby dick anytime soon, i'll tell you that for free.
This is very ironic. My doctor asked me how I did on one medication vs. another. After that discussion he suggested we go ahead and continue with Straterra and he bagan write the script. He asked me "how many were you taking a day"? I told him 2 (since he told me to take 2). "How many milligrams were each one?" he asked. I of course could not remember, so he wrote a script and told me this: "Take one two times a day, or you can take two one time. After about 6-7 days if you are taking one in the morning and one in the afternoon, add another in the morning. If that feels okay and you don't have any bad side-effects after about 4-5 more days add another in the afternoon."
What was he thinking? I was lucky when I climbed in the car that morning to remember I was going to the appointment and double lucky to then be able to find the office!
