The Tenex can make your child very tired. My doctor suggested that my son take it at night and he was very tired by the end of the next day.  Now I'm trying 1/2 of a 1mg. tablet.  I've posted a few times on this message board today.  You may want to read my other posts.Hi mys on has been on Tenex for a year.  Ho couldn't use any stim meds because of the tics he got when on them.  It has worked extremely well for him.  He was a tad tired for the first week and it increased his appetite, but other than that we didn't notice any side effects.  We started on a very low dose-1/2 mg in the am and then 1/2 mg in am and pm for about 6 months, now he takes 1mg in am 1 in pm.  i also have previous posts regarding Tenex.  Let us know how it goes!

Does anyone know anything about Tenex?  My son will start it on Friday, he is being taken off the Adderall XR  due to side effects.  Let me know please.........thanks

My daughter has been on 36 mg of Concerta for 2 years.  Before that she was on 18 mg of Concerta for about 3 years.  For the past 2 months I have noticed that her med wasn't lasting like it used to. Once school got out, I did not have to give it to her as early, but it was still wearing off very  early.  I spoke with her doctor about increasing her med to 54 mg, but he wanted to try something else first because he feels she is to small.  She weighs 50 pounds and is almost 9 years old.  We tried the Tenex 1/2 mg in the afternoon, and it was good for a couple of days, but then nothing.  At her last appointment, I let him know that it did not help.  He has know suggested giving the 1/2 mg Tenex in the morning with her Concerta.  It seems to be working fine, but she is taking her meds around 8 or 8:30 in the morning.  I am concerned that when it gets closer to school starting back, and her taking it at 6:30, that it will be worn off before the school day ends.  I am going to try it before her next appointment to see if it lasts long enough.  If it isn't, I don't think we will have a choice but to increase her Concerta, if her doctor will agree with me.  He told me to increase the tenex to 1 mg if it wasn't working at 1/2 mg.  Does anyone else's children take both meds?

A few days ago I wrote about my son who is taking Tenex (generic) to resolve the tics that I believe are associated with taking Concerta. (He takes Concerta only 3 or so times a week because he is on a travel baseball team and we have noticed that the Concerta has helped with focus during sports as well as academics.) I tried 1/2 mg. once a day (along with the Concerta).  It resolved the finger snapping tic. but not the sniffing tic.  I tried 1/2 mg. am and 1/2 pm. -no finger snapping, but still sniffing.  Last night I tried 1 mg (which before had made him so, so tired the next day).  This morning he is still sniffing!  I am very frustrated at this point!  The last time he took 1mg he was so very tired the next day, but today he isn't. I asked my son if his nose is dry.  He responded that it was.  What has anyone done for a dry nose?  Could that be part of the sniffing? The last time he took Tenex once, it made him tired, but the tics were resolved like magic!  I know that seemed strange, but I don't know how to make it happen again!

From what I have know and see, Tenex takes time to get into the system.  It should be a slow build up until the child is at the correct dosage.  The effect does not "wear off" like stimulant medication.

Also, tics are a widely varying thing-they can take time to dissapate also.  My sons tics still come and go depending on many different things.  It may have been a fluke that your sons tic dissapeared after the Tenex.  Give him some time on the Tenex, it does not work overnight like other medications.
