Concerta is not meant for children under 6. Please do some research before putting your child on any of the meds. I would think at 3 that a special diet would be a great place to start. I would be worried about a pediatrician that wanted to dose your child at that age. Do the research yourself, don't rely on the ped. Our pediatrician did not tell us half of what we were getting our daughter into.
My daughter was diagnosed ADD and on Concerta for 3 weeks and in that time she had every bad reaction listed. Not eating, not sleeping, stomach hurt, head hurt, major anxieties, we even had an episode or two of psychosis that will be with her for the rest of her life. Really scary.
I know that meds help some kids. For us, it was a nightmare. We have decided to look into a special diet and continue to see the therapist. I wish you lots of luck!
My son is 3 years old and diagnosed last week with adhd. Our doc wants to put him on concerta. We haven't decided if we are comfortable with that. I am still trying to get as much info as I can. What are the side effects of concerta and does it come in different forms since I don't know how I would get a 3 year old to take a pill. Thanks for any info.

Hi i also believe three is too young for medicine i would try and wait it out for awhile. But my 11 year old son has been on concerta for many years now, and the only side effect he has is loss of appetite, he gets extremely hungry when the meds where off, exactly 12 hours later for him. It's hard to say if your child would have side effects because the medicine act differently for each person!
