Husband doesn’t respond well to stimulant

Hi all.  New on this board.  My husband is 30 and was dx with ADD-inattentive type both in childhood and again in adulthood.  He's also had recurrent depression.  None of the meds he's tried have helped either disorder.  In fact, with the ADD meds, stimulants make him hostile and irritable.  He loses weight and makes more angry comments to me.  He's mean on stimulants and pretty nice and gentle off of them.  (Unless he's depressed that is, and then he's just a butt...)  We've discussed the possibility of cyclothymia or bipolar II because of his reactions to the meds.  Any ideas?
