UPDATE ON MIXING STRATTERA/DEXEDRINE
I'm off the mix for good.
I now am on just dexedrine as the strattera started to make me feel like I was going backwards in my therapy. I was starting to try and cut corners, and feeling like I used to pre-meds.
I think strattera should be last-ditch for a doc when nothing else seems to work on you. It started ok - but I felt warning signs right away that something was totally wrong with me. The phasing out on people wasn't nice and was like the bad old days for me.
I'm already starting to feel better now - and I'm going to trust my instincts more and go with my gut on it.
HELLOALL IM NEW TO THE SITEFind a new doctor, this is a totally ass-backwards move.
I'm now on dexedrine AND strattera. I'm not finding what others seem to of the slowing down and being dragged out tired. What I DO find though is my thoughts become slowed and it takes longer to get a word out of my mouth. Boy is that nice!
For an experiment I went online and took an IQ test - one that I had taken earlier without any meds (about a year ago).
It had put me pre-med at around 145 - very respectable high IQ.
So, I took my strattera/dex combo and waited for a couple hours.
The new IQ test was 116!!! What I found was that I could not reason out the puzzle questions anywhere near as quickly as before. The IQ test uses the answers plus the time to take it to make the total.
I'll gladly take a "drop" in IQ since the two drugs seem to keep me both alert and under total control of my thoughts. Lately I can't even FORCE myself to daydream as I tried to close my eyes and imagine - it just wasn't the same.
I notice at work I concentrate only on the now. Future events and schedules take conscious effort to process as I don't have them popping up in my head like before. It's kind of cool.
I don't think I'm going to drop the dexedrine though. Sounds like it would leave me a little too lethargic and I don't care to find out how that feels.
My brain worked quite well on Adderall, but I got a little too aggressive with my family and my driving. I just complained that the Strattera isn't doing anything for focus, attention, or motivation, so my doctor raised the dose from 40 to 60. We'll see.
Doing Lexapro also for depression. It keeps me more stable.
In addition, I've done at least 5 antidepressants, and ritalin, in combinations over about 8 years. This is my first post. Thanks.
I went from strattera to adderall xr.
I couldn't take the strattera. While it made me feel great mentally.. Physically I was mush.
I would just fall asleep without even knowing it. Very tired, Lazy, unable to do much of anything.
I stayed on it for 2 months, even taking it before bed, but it never changed..
So the doc decided adderall xr would be a better choice.
I think they are pushing the strattera because its not as addictive, and there aren't as many stimulants in it
