Welcome, jr! In my opinion, it's definitely ad/hd, and I'm sure many here will agree. We seem to be able to hyperfocus on things like the computer or anything we truly enjoy, yet find it difficult to be motivated to do things we need to do, like chores! Believe me, otherwise I wouldn't be here amongst the mess, while I sit at my computer.

I wouldn't beat yourself up about the chores, as long as your children aren't neglected, which I'm sure they are not, jrlovely. Have you been diagnosed or on meds at this time? Being diagnosed is a big step in becoming motivated to at least begin to work on what needs to be done.

Again, welcome to the board. There are fine people here who are always willing to listen and share their advice.

I hate them. I am a wife and mother of 4 boys. There is no way around doing them. Will meds make me feel better abt chores? I can sit and commune with my computer and waste the day away but to do housework is almost painful!

Is this ADD or lazyiness?

I don't have kids myself, but I will say I don't do housework. hehe BAD ME!!!

I think it must be ADD.  It seems to be pretty prevalent on this forum.  I have been labeled lazy all my life.

I also hate chores.

I find it easier to clean if I look at it as redecorating. I might get a bouquet of flowers so I need to clean the table off; I want the things around the flowers to look nice so I might get the whole room clean.

I also make up little poems to remind me what I should be doing IE.

The Whole Week Through

As far as chores go . The question you have to ask yourself is.....

Do you really want to keep a clean house but feel as though there is some innerforce compelling you to procrastinate. ADHD is almost like something inside that constantly fight against your ability to concentrate, feel motivated. etc. It drags you out making you feel fatigued and frustrated. I want to finish college through distance learning. But when I try to read there is an inner struggle constantly.

YES YES YES!!!!! That is exactly hoe I fell about cleaning-I make list after list and rarely complete things-it gets so frustrating. This week has been really bad b/c I've been sick w/bronchitis and worked to save my vacation time for later-but my job is very flexible and even when I could have been cleaning or working on my paperwork for my job(which is also something I procrastinate about) I've done nothing too productive. My daughter is turning 3 tomorrow and I procrastinated until today to finish getting her gifts and they had sold out of the bike she wanted-luckily I found one I think she will like but I was still frustrated w/myself.

My best friends house is always very clean and mine is usually cluttered-clean,but cluttered!! So glad someone can relate!!!!!

I basically do one chore per day. That is above and beyond meals, dishes , and making bed. You all might think I'm completely nuts, except for JARANDLE, but here is my weekly chore list....
