Non-Prescription MedicationStacey, I made the decision to try the L-tyrosine based on information from a book by Daniel Amen called 'Healing ADD'. I found it at the library, so you don't necessarily need to buy it, but it might be worth reading for you. He talks about the 6 different types of ADD and different treatment options for each. Also, he certainly advocates the use of medication, but he does offer supplement information as well, and recommends the high-protien/low-carb/low sugar diet. My son does not do well with dairy, and has been drinking rice milk (rice dream) since he was 3. It's not too bad, and is slightly sweeter than milk. If your son really hates it, you might look at Mocha Mix which is a non-dairy product that I use to make home-made ice-cream for him, or for cooking when I need something that is more substantial than the rice milk (for sauces, soups, and stuff like that). Much luck to you! Thank you for the input. I have begun giving him Omega 3 capsules and the phycologist/counselor suggested the low carb eating plan and as little sugar as possible. He only likes a breakfast shake in the morning but the one I give him is milk based and I read that dairy products can be bad for them. One site had a shake made with fresh brewed coffee, protein powder, and either rice milk, almond milk or another form of non-dairy milk product with ice in a blender. Think I will try it as soon as school is out as mornings are rushed and if he doesn't like it he could go into a rage. Temper seems to be his biggest problem along with loosing things. Thanks again. I will try L-tyrosine supplement, sounds better than a mixture. Good luck to everyone.I haven't tried either of those but am highly considering trying Attend by VAXA. When looking at the web site and comparing it to BeCalmed it looks much better. Since I haven't tried it though I can't recommend it. Look at the web site and compare http://www.nomoreadd.com/gaw3.html. We did try Attend with our 11 year old. It's be just over a month, and we haven't really seen much improvement if any. We are going to try the L-tyrosine with his multi vitamin and Omega 3 next. Thanks krobb, I have the book Healing ADD on order at my library. I will be anxious to get it after your info. I will sure try the rice milk and hope to get his input on helping me make a non-dairy shake that he will like (he is 15). Maybe if he can experiment with me, he will be more apt to come up with something he will like. He isn't very cooperative of late though. Thanks!! |
