Adderall XR causing Excessive Talking? | ADHD Information

I started my son on dexedrine, and the first day he had the exact same experience as your daughter: nonstop talking.  This did subside in a few days. But then he developed a coughing tic, and we took him off the med.  Good luck.

My youngest daughter (6 years old) was just diagnosed this week with ADD wihout hyperactivity (I was diagnosed the same about a year ago).  Anyway, I just started her yesterday (Friday, May 14, 2004) on Adderall XR 15 mg and she has had her dose today.  Question:  Since she has been on the Adderall she won't stop talking!  It is almost like stream of conscouisness (sorry probably misspelled) in that she is telling me EVERYTHING that pops into her mind whether it is important for me to know or not!  I love her very much and I love to talk to her, but, this constant monologue is very tiring.  What do you think--could this be because her body needs to adjust to the medication?  I would love to hear any experiences that you have had.  Thanks!

My daughter is 6 also. Her dr prescribed 5 mg adderall xr and said to give 1 or 2.I felt that she would need 10mg since she is real hyper. The first day I gave it to her she talked real fast and could not be still.I lowered it to 5 mg for a week and when I increased it back to 10 mg she was fine. She is calm now and doing good in school.I would give it a couple of days and if it continues I would get it lowered to 10 mg.I have learned that it is better to start low and raise it if you have to. brendamccraw238122.6158680556

Hopefully this will all blow over by Monday if not I will call.  I was diagnosed with ADD w/o hyperactivity a year ago and my psychiatrist has me on regular (old-type) Adderall that I take AM and at noon.  He also started me on a real low dose and then increased it.  If she is not better by Monday I will call the doctor back.  At least he is reputed to be an expert in the area of ADD.  In fact, we paid cash to see him as he is not on our insurance.  My girls regular pediatrician could do no more than just prescribe an RX and "see how she does" I find that to be totally scary--not testing it out a bit to make sure it is ADD?

So hopefully she will adjust.  If anyone else has any experiences let me know.  Thanks!

Yes I had the same problem with my son (8 years old).  When I first put him on the Adderall XR, he would not stop talking for about 3 days.  But then once his body got used to the medication the constant talking stopped.  Good luck.

I am 29 yrs old, I've been taking Adderall XR for out 4-5 months.  I started out at 10mg, after about 1mo was increased to 20mg.  I find that for about the first 4 hours after taking the meds, I can not stop talking either!!!  I also have no appetite & feel like I need to constantly be doing something.  It's kind of an anxious/nervous feeling.  For me it seems to be getting worse.  I'm thinking about either lowering the dose or changing meds.  If I feel this way (anxious/nervous), I wonder if your children do also.  They may, but might not be able to let you know.  It even took me a while to realize those feelings are probably from the Adderall. Good Luck!  Stacey
