Adderall | ADHD Information

Hey all. I'm new to this board and I'm hoping some of you can help me out. I just started taking Adderall XR 3 days ago. I've always thought I was hyper since I was very young and I have noticed here lately that my attention span is much shorter than it used to be. I used to be able to sit down and read a good book for some time but now when I do it, my mind wonders to what else I could be doing. I'm always moving, even when trying to relax reading a book. I asked my doctor the other day about ADHD and filled out a questionaire and he put me on 5 mg of Adderall XR, to start with. It seems like it's improved my attention span but today I'm feeling really sleepy. It may be because of lack of sleep from the medication. I would like to know how I am suppose to feel being on ADHD medication. I was told that if I'm truly ADHD then the medication will work, if not, then I'll be wired like on speed. Is this true? Should I be feeling tired with only 5 mg once in the morning? I wasn't sure if I should increase my dose or maybe this medication isn't the right one for me. Could some of you please give me some advice on this?  Thanks!

my son was on Adderall XR 25 mg for months, after weird side effects, restlessness, tics, the doc stopped it and said that some people who are more "hyper/impulsive" won't react as well to the stimulants, we are starting on tenex (a blood pressure med) tonight!  I hope it works, maybe you can ask your doc for something like that. Thanks! I am taking Atenolol for blood pressure. I'm also on Cymbalta for depression. Those two work good for what they are meant for. I'm just hoping to find something to calm me down some so that I can slow down and enjoy things more, like reading a book or just sitting down watching a movie. I do have a lot of nervous energy too. The first day I took Adderall it seemed great! I'm hoping this is the right medication for me but I don't want it to make me tired. I hear it's supposed to suppress your appetite? It does seem to do that. Are ADHD medications supposed to "calm you down"?....meaning being tired?
