Fish Oil | ADHD Information

I just wanted to tell everyone that I read on a board about fish oil. I picked up a bottle of 60 at walmart. It really does produce a sort of calming affect. I take 3000 mg a day (per bottle instr.). I am more able to read and concentrate better some days. I still need some other boost. I need consistancy. I am going to see if my doctor will prescribe provigil. I think it will help based on what I have read.I recently learned of a test to see if you truly have pure fish oil. Put your capsule in the freezer for a couple of hours. If any part of it freezes or gunks up, it means they have added fat to the capsule.  I did this test with my mom's fish oil from Natures Made. It all gunked up. My capsule from Advocare was pure. So glad to know I am getting the pure stuff. It doesn't pay to buy cheap.

Definitely have to go with PURE...top of the line fish oil products.

thanks for letting me share.

Interesting...I'm going to share this info on the Alternative board...hope you don't mind

Yes, Please Share this information. It's such a shame that while someone is hoping to better themselves but taking this awesome supplement, they are actually making things worse. My mom's cholesterol went up 50 points after taking the Natures Made for 3 months.
Taking all these kinds of pills is great if you are the parent and force it on the kid.  But, what do you do as an adult who has to take it yourself?  I can't tell you how many bottles of vitamins and such I have bought thinking that "this will help me" but I can't seem to remember to take them.  Pill boxes don't work for me either......
Valzap, I have the same problem remembering.  One thing that has helped is I carry some with me.  Then if i happen to remember when I'm out and about I can take them.  Seems like that IS when I remember...not in the morning when I typically want to take them.

Whoops, I accidentally bumped this up.

Yay! She learns...

Whoops, I intentionally bumped this up.    Thanks, Gold1.

That makes sense now. The contaminants build up in the larger fish, b/c they're higher on the food chain, or graze larger areas for sustenance. These impurities tend to be stored in fatty tissues, where the omegas are from.

Molecular distillation is one of the same processes they use for distilling fuels and oils from base petroleum, after cracking the longer carbohydrate chains. Of course, on food grade equipment, and in consumable quantities. Probably won't find a still the size of the ones in New Orleans crackin' fishies... Btw, I wouldn't be eatin' NO bay fish, either... At least for awhile. A fish generation or two. The FDA'll keep it clean, though. They are pretty darn good at what they do. For a gov't agency...
I use Ultimate Omega made by Nordic Natural.  I buy it at a health food store. Although there are many brands in the store to choose from, the vitamin consultant at the store directed me to this brand because it is third party tested showing NO PCB's, heavy metals or dioxins.
Hi Goldy,

Welcome to the forums.

Are the impurities from the environment where the fish are grown, or from the process of extracting the omegas?

If environmental, where are the fish from?

Thanks,

D
Hey! That looked like a fishing pole!

I think I'll graduate from simple geometries and blue trees.

The bottle states that it is moleculary distilled and the oil is tested. There's been lots of news about some large fish containing large quanties of metals (mercury) and toxins.  I feel safer chosing this brand because it is third party tested for metals and toxins.

Are there omegas in sushi? I use Ultimate Omega made by Nordic Natural.  I buy it at a health food store. I finally get what this means!!!  Oz, I think she has a brain!!

I just wanted everyone to know that my sister has gotten her daughter on the Omega's and magnesium.  Been about 2 weeks and so far so good.  Thanks to all of you who suggested this.  I'll let you know if my sis REALLY starts to see an improvement. i started taking Omega's too.  My thinking is that since I don't eat meat, poultry, or fish I have to be lacking many things.  I'm not sure if I feel any differently but only been taking for 2 weeks now and I forget half of the time.

I don't believe freezing oil to determine its purity is a valid observation. If you freeze any liquid oil, they will "gunk." Vitamin E is added to keep fish oil more stable. You need to have Vitamin E or the fish oil will go bad too soon.

Fish oil does nothing for me. But again I eat lots of sushi (raw salmon) and I get enough omega-3 in my diet.
