Folks
I was just prescribed daily 18mg of Concerta for my inattentive ADD. I'm a 40 yr old male, 5'6" average build. I have not noticed any great changes, but I feel I am able to focus a bit better. There are no side effects.
My daughter (7yrs old) and less than half my size/weight is taking 18mg and is working very well for her... I would have thought a higher dose would be presribed for me..
What is the typical dose for adults my age/build? If you are an adult and are taking Concerta - what is your dose?
Thanks! Steve
I am not sure, what I think though is that Concerta works differently on each person and you need to take whatever makes you do better. My daughter is 16 and was on 54mg of concerta...It worked good for her for about 6 months and then it seemed to have quit or something went wrong and she became very angry and emotional and we finally took her off of it and tried Strattera and things seem to be better again. I would maybe go a little stronger on the concerta and see what you think, but you don't want it to be too strong or you could maybe get these emotional types of things going on, thats just what I think. Good LUCK!!!!!!!Hi Steve: Regarding your dosage, as the prior writer wrote, it all depends on the individual. Don't think that "more is better" - I'm up to 54 now but started out at 18mg. Had to cut out coffee and remember to eat (you are so focused that food doesn't seem important). However, I think we all forget that we need to reinforce organization and get rid of our old "ADD" bad habits while we are in the "focused" stage. Taking Concerta like putting on eyeglasses and "seeing clearly". This is the time to get "organized" because sometimes the long effect of this med may fade. However, if you have improved on your organization and priortiy skills, you won't notice it as much. Having said that, I better get back to paying bills...... I will be trying Straterra next week...... the journey continues. Wishing you the best. ZMan88
